Question about 2003 Subaru Outback

A/C ISSUES WITH 03' OUTBACK 3.0

To make a long story short as possible, local certified mech replaced, comp., accumalator, expansion valve and high side line due to a leak, I began having a noise that sounds like the low note of a flute resonate inside of the cab, but only sporadicly. I tracked the noise down to a vibration in the low side line just before it enters the fire wall. I am thinking restriction or malfunction in expansion valve. Maybe too much oil in the system. Any ideas? Also, how much oil should be in the compressor. Subaru says 4oz in the condensing coil, .4oz per hose, .2oz in accumalator, but no spec on compressor.???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JOEL

I had this problem and it was because I tried to fill the system myself and I did two things wrong.  One, I had the pressure too high.  Subaru preasors are lower than a lot.  Two, I got air in the line and it was causing this.  I took my Subaru back to a certified mecanic who put my a/c system on a vacuum  for an hour them preasurized it properly and it took the problem away and it works great.

Where is expansion valve located on 2004 mazda 3

That valve is located just in front of the evaporator. You can look for the location that the high side connection uses to go through the firewall and it is either there or just on the other side in the plenum. However, if you replace it, you are looking at a long complicated process that should not be undertaken as a do it yourself project because it requires tools and training that you cannot short cut.

Where is the expansion valve located on the 2004 KIA Sedona

Kia Sedona expansion FRONT valve located under dash, behind glove box, fan and coil. Evacuate freon first. Disconnect Freon lines from firewall., Lay right front seat back to flat horizontal position and lay on top or totally remove the seat for easier working access. Remove under dash cover, fan, glove box, coil housing, remove coil mounting bolts, remove old expansion valve. (Inspect old valve, if debris inside, blow out coil before installing new valve. If visible debris best to consider replacing REAR expansion valve and DRIER/FILTER in front of radiator too and blow out all lines and coils while servicing.) Use compressor oil to lubricate "O" rings on new FRONT or REAR expansion valve, install valve bolts, reinstall coil bolts to FRONT firewall or REAR frame, reconnect freon lines to firewall in engine compartment. Evacuate AC system, install freon (35 1/2 ounces, nominal 3 pounds), check system for leaks, check for proper operation, enjoy.

Where is the orifice tube located on 88 buick park avenue

Inspect/Test/Replace To raise pressure, there must be a restriction in the air conditioning system. The restriction divides the system into the high side and the low side. The terms high side and low side refer to the high pressure and low pressure within the system.
The flow control can be either an orifice tube or a metering device called an expansion valve. A thermostatic expansion valve controls the amount of refrigerant that is allowed to flow to the evaporator. A temperature sensing bulb on the evaporator inlet controls the expansion valve.
  • A bad expansion valve will cause low readings on both the low and high side.
  • Failure of the sensing bulb is the most common problem.
  • Sometimes the valve can become plugged with debris.
  • If the sensing capillary tube is warm, there is high pressure that pushes on the diaphragm.
  • The sensing bulb checks the temperature of the outlet line of the evaporator.
  • If it is warm, it opens the valve.
  • Pressure on top of the diaphragm tries to push the valve open.
  • The operation of the expansion valve can be checked.
  • Some expansion valves can be cleaned, repaired or adjusted.
f73-15a.gif This system uses an expansion valve as it's flow control device. Some expansion valves are wrapped with insulation. When the sensing bulb is in the evaporator case, it does not need to be wrapped because it stays cold. When an expansion valve is packed in that type of system, it is only to silence the noise that the evaporator makes.

CAUTION
Only EPA-certified technicians can purchase R-12 refrigerant, since proper recovery and recycling techniques are required to prevent damaging the environment. Improper disposal of R-12 refrigerant can result in a fine.

Hi,

I believe that because your vehicle is relatively new is the reason that the subaru mech wants to use original equipement. He/she also makes a bit more money if they do the work that way.

This is one of those times that you may want to get a second and third opinion, no need for hip replacement when vitamins will do.

The $400 should be spent when you have exhausted all avenues.

Check online for your local subaru forum and ask them for a mech who will probably have more understanding than your current guy...

Hope that helps.

A backyard mechanic gave my 2001 outback an old change. However he drained the tranny instead, then when replacing the tranny fluid he wrongly put over 3 quarts into the transfer case on the passenger...

To drain the transfer case, you will need to **** out the fluid some, you can get a hand held pump at your local auto store. Then you will need to make sure that you add the proper transfer case fluid, then drain it again, then add the proper amount. Good luck with this, and my suggestion is to make sure that you hire on a mechanic that is certified, Lic, and bonded, or take it to a shop.

99 Toyota Tacoma a/c reads high pressure on low pressure side

Does the compressor run?
Low side could be high without a running compressor.

A running compressor?
The expansion valve itself is about $50 and bolts in.
You will have to remove the 134a gas before installing a replacement expansion valve and vacuum the system before recharging.
