Question about 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Trouble keeping engine running

OK, I just replaced my intake gasket. Everything is all assembled now. Starts up, runs fine, but after a few seconds, the engine begins to run very rough then either stalls or starts to run fine and then stalls. Everything was working fine before the rebuild, now everything has gone to hell. The reason I replaced it is because it was leaking. It is an electronically metered carburetor which I heard can go bad.

I've solved this one by letting the computer do the work. I let the engine run rough at about 1500 rpm until the computer caught up with everything and adjusted either the carb or the timing, now it runs better than it did before!

03 subaru Legacy 2.5 won't start . Turns over but won't fire. I have replaced fuel pump , fuel filter , and the pressure regulator. Pure fuel in the intake and starts fine What could be the problem

Does it start and keep running? Or does it start and just run for a few seconds? If it starts and runs for a few seconds you need to check your fuses first. It could be the fuel pump or EFI fuse or a few others.
If you prime it and it keeps running, well, you've got me there.

Why is my truck idling and running so ruff? But when I un plug the MAF it runs fine

Vacuum leaks. Check hoses. Also check the intake manifold at the gasket. To check the intake (have the MAF plugged in) Spray some wd40 around the intake at the gasket seal. If the engine starts running fine at some point. Replace the intake manifold gasket.

Car overheating replaced everything and still overheats

try a pressure test on the radiator while it engine is running.. If your head gasket is broken the compression of the engine goes into the cooling system. If the pressure rapidy increases it would indicate a head gasket problem.

I have a 2002 pontiac grand am gt.. i have to start it for about 10 seconds and shut it off then start it again for another 10 seconds i have to do that a few times before it starts. once it starts it...

i would start by taking off the oil filler cap to inspect it and also the oil dip stick to see if there is a white kindof color. if there is then suspect a blown intake gasket. these vehicles are notorious for blowing the intake manifold gaskets. if you find no white coloring in those areas, then try this. first try turning the key over to on for a few seconds( do not start vehicle) just turn it on. then turn it back off for a few seconds. do this for 3 or 4 times in a row then try starting the vehice. if it starts then suspect a weakened fuel pump. if neither of these help, then please repost and i will try father to assist you.

Starts but will not stay running

My guess would be intake gaskets leaking. Did you take the intake off, or do it all in one piece?

Check for vacuum leaks, especially the intake gaskets. Does it run rough on a cold start for a few seconds and then smooth out and run fine until the next cold start?
