1997 Dodge Intrepid shutting off while driving

The engine just dies. I pull over to the side of the road and it usually fires right up. Recently though, I've had to wait a few minutes then it fires up. The engine turns over fin, but it is like there is no gas.

Any suggestions?

My 1997 Dodge Intrepid, 2.7L, also just stalls in the middle of driving ! (Can be very dangerous while driving with no shoulder, or on highway !

It starts after about 15 minutes ; it tries rto crank over but it's like there's no gas into engine. Have changed most semsors and told fuel pump ok. My thought is maybe it's the fuel filter but I was told gas tank must be taken off & dealer did not want to do.; dealer said it's only a screen and it's not that. Car only has approx. 77K. Any advice ?

I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be the crank shaft positioning sensor whatever that is. took three mechanics to figure it out since it was an on again off again problem.

You don't have to drop the fuel tank to get to the fuel pump in these cars. You go through the trunk, take out the carpet and at the back of the trunk there will be 4 screws, it's right under there. Very easy to get to.

Have someone check your fuel pump, as well as your air/gas mixture. My car was doing this and it was my fuel pump going out.

1997 dodge intrepid shut off while driving down the road acts like it wants to start but wont

It's common for them to have a bad crank shaft sensor. It is located half way up the bell housing on the passenger side. It takes a 13/32 socket and a 6in extension. Remove the air intake tube and the coil pack ( same socket ) and you can get to it from the top. It just pulls out after you take out the one bolt on the bottom. The part is about $40. Hope this helps.

2004 dodge intrepid driveing down road and it died and wont start or get fire to plugs is it a sensor

More then likely yes, I would check your Crankshaft sensor, that what send the signal to the coil packs then to the spark plugs, the sensor is held on with a 10mm bolt on the side of the engine block on the passenger side.

No spark in a 1997 dodge intrepid?

With scaner hook up, look at data scoll to cam and crankshaft sensor, should red yes while cranking engine, but more them likely it's going to be crankshaft sensor, sits on right side of engine block.Good luck.

My dodge runs strange if im i drive less then 35 40.then today the car shut off while drivin down the road i put it in neuatral to restart it??

I WOULD CHECK FUEL PRESSURE.IT SHOULD BE 55 PSI FOR THE 3.3 ENGINE.48 PSI FOR THE 3.5 ENGINE.THIS TEST YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE FROM FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.IF FUEL PRESSURE IS LOW.REPLACE FUEL FILTER.IF STILL LOW REPLACE FUEL PUMP.
