Hi there I had the SAME problem in my 318i. I cracked mine driving over a parking barrier in the road (long story!) Anyway. Take your car to a garage and they will drain all your oil out of the engine and sump area. They can then inject a resin into the hairline crack and once it's all set, they'll put the oil back into your car and you won't have any leak from that area again! try that first before getting a new sump. As the area needs to be bone dry from oil, they draining of oil out of your car and the waiting for the resin to set make it pretty much an all day job. Good luck with it all if you've not repaired it yet.

The cheapest solution if the sump is cracked at the plug. Is to use pratley steel . . . . . . . The best solution would be to buy a new sump. . . . But as well as being the best solution it'l also be the most expensive. . . . . .. But before trying the pratley steel. . . . Fisrt try to a new sump plug.

have a pressure test done on the cooling system to check for leaks. have a flow test done on the radiator to check for blocked cores. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracks. If you have a viscous fan hub on the fan then replace it if the heating is indicated at stop lights and slow traffic. If automatic check that the transmission oil temperature is not overheating and putting that heat into the radiator from the oil cooler in the radiator tank

I'm Ben and -- hopefully -- I can provide some meaningful assistance.

I recommend a diagnostic scan to confirm my diagnosis of a malfunctioning coil(s).

How to Test and Replace Ignition Coil on BMW 3 Series

The following procedures apply for BMW 3 series (6-cylinders engine) 1992 - 1998 model years. To Test and Replace the Ignition Coil, do the following:
  1. Remove plastic engine covers from top of engine by prying off nut covers and removing cover mounting nuts.
  2. Disconnect harness connector from coil. Connect multimeter between terminal 15 (+) in connector and ground. (use a digital multimeter for the following test). See Fig.1. below BMW 3 series coil harness
  3. Turn ignition on and check for battery voltage. If battery voltage is not present, check wire between terminal 15 and ignition switch. The wiring to terminal 15 (+) of the coil (via the ignition switch) is not fuse protected. Use care when testing this circuit.
  4. Turn ignition off.
  5. Use a multimeter to test coil primary resistance at coil terminals. (primary coil terminals: 1 (-) and 15 (+), primary coil resistance: 0.4-0 .8 ohms; secondary coil terminal and resistance: NA).
  6. Remove coil and inspect coil housing for hairline cracks or leaking casting material . A leaky ignition coil may indicate a faulty engine control module (ECM). Check ECM before installing a new coil.
  7. When replacing ignition coils, ensure that the replacement coil(s) are from the same manufacturer containing the same part code numbers. If individual coils with the correct specifications are not available, all coils should be replaced.

How to change screen washer bottle on a bmw e90 330d 2006 as it is leaking after all the frost. Seem to be in wheel arch?

to access the windscreen bottle, you have to take off the front wheel, wheelarch and dicconnect filler tube. Using 10 mm socket take off one bolt holding the bottle. To reinstall take off side indicator to make it easy for you.
for E90 model it is normal to have leak when the bottle is full. the water is coming out from breather on top of bottle. but if the fluid is complately drain, then there's something wrong with it.

BMW 318i engine leak close proximity to Oil Pressure Sensor

Remember, the leak is detected at the bottom. Follow it to it's source.

Just like a roof leak, the water shows up where the roof meets the wall but the leak is way up above.
