SOURCE: 99 Beetle Serpentine belt diagram

The serpentine belt on my 2001 Beetle loops around the outside of the large pulley closest to the firewall, at the bottom, then goes around the outside of the forward lower pulley, then crosses to the inside of the one right above the forward lower pulley, then loops over the outside of the alternator pulley at the top front side, then goes inside under the tensioner pulley, and back down to the outside of the big rear pulley.

I hope that description makes sense. A picture would work a lot better, but I don't have an easy way to post it. Also, I know you asked about the '99 Beetle, but I assume its routing is the same as the 2001 (which is the one I have).

Go to; daycoproducts.com, click cars and trucks, then go to serpentine belt. Then on the right side of the screen click on finding your vehicle. Then get the illistration number and click on illistrations, go to that number it should something 6-? or 7-?. It's a pretty good websight.

How to tighten a serpentine belt on 2000 chrysler cirrus

Try this, adjust the belt tension so that the belt is sloppy and then tighten the center bolt. If the pulley is straight that I am going to bet that the belt is stretched or wrong and the tensioner puller is bottomed out which would make it go crooked.

How do change serpentine, and ac belt on 3.2 ,2001 chrysler concorde. do i loosen nut on tension pully. It is really tight. then how does it looosen to remove belt

Beside the pulley on the arm it is mounted on is a square hole. Place a 1/2 drive breaker bar in that hole and push to right or left. One way will looken the belt. It is a very heavy spring so don't do it till you have the belt to replace with.

Water pump

Water pump is driven by the timing belt. You need to take everything off of the front of the motor. Make sure you use a new timing belt.
