Most fuel pumps are in the gas tank. some are in-line. first find which one you have. then depending on the car, if in the tank. you might have to drop the tank and fix it or some of them have a panel that pops open that gets to it. if in-line then it is under you car somewhere. hope i helped.

Mercedes clk 200 petrol 1999.guys I really need help quickly please. Only brought the car yesterday and already it's a goner. Driving home it was very sluggish. this morning again sluggish....

If it runs good in park or at idle but is slugish when you try to accelerate it is likely a fuel issue. I would start with a new fuel filter. When you press on the gas you need more fuel pressure and if the pump cant get more through the clogged filter you will get that. If it runs bad even at idle it is likely a spark issue and needs new plugs and wires. I would give it a good tune up - oil change, spark plugs (platinum or iridium), plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, PCV Valve and see how she runs after that.

Could be fuel system related, especially if it has dual tanks. Have you tried the T.P.S? (throttle position sensor) Its usually located under throttle body.

Engine is sluggish and hesitates on takeoff. Poor fuel milage. I changed spark plugs helped some but didn't fix problem

DIRTY AIR FILTER + CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS RESTRICTED FUEL FILTER.BAD PLUG WIRES.AND CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID IT COULD BE LOW CAUSING SLIPPING.THAT WILL GIVE YOU SLUGGISH ENGINE TAKE OFF.

Replace the plug wires and plugs and inspect the old parts for cracks and corrosion(wires) and carbon deposits(plugs). Inspecting the air filter (replace if necessary) and replacing the fuel filter may help also.

1996 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH OCCASIONAL SLUGGISHNESS ON ACCELERATION AND SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE USING MORE GAS THAN USUAL. HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF, REG. OIL CHANGES, NEW FUEL FILTER 2 YRS AGO-DR

I would use 10W40 in the 96 and 5W20 or 30 in the 2002.

For the 96 with sluggishness, you need to gently clean the MAF sensor wires with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. It is in the air intake tube. After cleaning, disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, then reconnect so the computer can relearn the clean sensor. Drive for 10 miles, it will run rough until it relearns.

Section 03-14: Engine Controls, Electronic 1996 Town Car, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor The mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579):
  • is mounted on the corner of the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600).
  • uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine; air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool.
  • sends out an analog voltage signal to the PCM (12A650) to determine the intake air mass. The PCM will then calculate the required fuel injector pulse width to provide the desired air/fuel ratio.
The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly.

id start off with a basic tune up..you never know when u first buy a car when this stuff was lasted checked up on..i would first change the fuel filter if its clogged its really going to slow you down..then i would do and oil change to it and maybe the plugs and wires..check all of the fluid levels especially the transmission fluid..if you want to add horsepower and performance i would put better oil better wires and plugs and maybe a k&n filter instead of a paper one..
