It's the drive or main belt that you can see on the front of the engine. Probsbly one of the pullies locking up or the belt tensioner is going bad.

My car makes loud screeching noise when starting.

could be your serpentine belt. usually when they get worn they will start to either slip or cause a very high pitched screeching noise. to verify that is the cause get some water or brake clean in a spray bottle and spray it on to the belt while the vehicle is running. if the noise goes away for a moment you found your cause. if not then its something else. Hope this helps

Today when I parked at school, the oil light flickered when I stopped in the parking spot. I called my mechanic right away. He told me if it was flickering he thought it was a bad sensor. He even told...

Ok so if the oil like was flickering it probably is a bad sensor or just a little low on oil. (make sure to keep your car full of oil with refills all the time if its leaking, very important). but i dont think it siezed up. a screeching noise then no power? You probably broke a alternator or accessory belt. did the battery light come on and did you loose power steering? thats what it is, a different issue. replacing belts is pretty inexpensive, no reason to get rid of the car.

Whenever i first start my car and turn the wheel it make a schreechin sound and ssomtime when i turn it does it out of the blue but mostly after i start it

Go to the auto parts store and purchase a can of belt dressing. As them where to spray it, they will happily show you, and your screeching will stop. If it doesn't, you may need to look into purchasing a new power steering pump. Try the inexpensive route first (belt dressing), and I'm willing to bet it fixes the screeching.

MY 2001 Elantra was making a horrible screeching noise whenever i turned the car on and whenever i turned the steering wheel. i thought it was the power steering pump so i replaced the pump but i didnt...

Hi, it sounds more like you have a improperly tensioned drive belt. If you didn't get all the trapped air out of the power steering system this maybe the cause of your stiffer steering problem now. Try loosening the P/S belt all the way and starting the car if you still hear the noise you know its in one of the other drive belts. good luck

Do I change water pump when having timing belt changed

I would go to auto zone and get a diagram and the timing belt and do it yourself and the water pump (no it does not have to be changed everytime the timing belt is changed but if the car has over 60,000miles then it is best to change them both) it is not that hard especially if the car is not out of time just make sure you disconnect the negative side of the battery
