Driver side window lifter switch

The window lifter switch on my 2001 330Ci convertible went bad. The top switch for the driver's side front window no longer works. I found the replacement part and ordered it on-line, but I am unsure how to remove the faceplate around the shifter to get at the switch. I'm assuming that once the plate is off, I remove the switch with a small screwdriver to pry it up.

Can anyone offer me some advice of the burl faceplate around the shifter? I don't want to break it taking it off!

Actually, if you did as you suggest, you'd crack the plate. Another user submitted the right method and it worked perfectly. Put the gearshift in neutral, hold in the button on the shaft, and pull up sharply. That will remove the gear handle. Next, gently remove the leather boot from around gear changer. Doing so will expose two small phillips screws that need to be removed. That will allow the burl panel to be lifted and expose the window switch. The rest is straight forward.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Use a plastic wedge and pry it up gently, if it means getting two and going at it from two corners then do that.

The passenger side brake light, and passenger side (front and back) window control doesn't work is it a fuse?

Well, the short answer is no.
The lights and windows are are different fuses.
There's a slight chance you have a problem with a ground wire on that side, but I doubt the two problems are related.
I would check the light for power and ground, and look at the window switches for power and ground. The windows are powered thru the driver switch on most cars.

Passenger side window went down, but only the driver side switch will raise it.

is the switch on the drivers side in "lock out" where it wont let the other window operate from the right switch? if thats OK, then if the right side only lets the window down, but not up, and the driver can roll it up and down, the right switch must be bad.

Got kids? VW electric convertible top - I found dried milk in the switch had same problem on turn on convertible opened and would not close, would have to use manaul bypass foldup. Pull window controller spray with a electrical cleaner then try it. If not dirty the switch is bad. May be in driver door switch or on rear door? Good luck.
