The charging system, pedal, and sensors have been checked. The trans. problem and missing problems were the original problems and when my mechanic finally sent me to Chev. none of the problems " choose to show themselves." I should know on Mon. if my mechanic has solved the problems with the greater number of symptoms. Keep me in your files. More later- Bill

Sounds like a vehicle speed sensor, it governs shifting based on engine RPM vs Transmission RPM among other things. Located usually on the rear tailshaft or rear transfer case on the majority of 4L60E automatics.
It's not a switch or hoses. Make sure your fluid level is correct; it should be measured when hot (like too hot to touch the dipstick.) Assuming you have fluid of the correct sort and amount: If it is a three-speed, the trans is bad. If it is a four-speed, the trans is almost certainly bad, but there is a slight chance of a computer malfunction - computers shift the 4-speed trannies. The 3-speeds are tougher and cheaper, but generally speaking give worse fuel economy.
I'm pretty sure GM built your truck with the diesel engine as an option so there is a way to make this work. The trans shifts are based on a combination of ground speed and engine RPM so as long as the computer is able to get these signals your trans should work. I put an early 90's overdrive in a mid 80's truck and didn't plug the wiring in because the trans used a 4 wire plugin and my truck only had a 3 wire. It worked fine, even overdrive.
A little jury rigging and ingenuity should find a way to attach your current kickdown cable to the accellerator on the diesel pump. GM probably has a bracket to make it fit. Check with the parts guys at the counter. Hope this helps.
Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts.
