Question about 1998 Land Rover Discovery

1 Answer

Car dies My discovery only has this problem when it is extremely humid or I drive through a little water. The car will either quit running or acts like it is being deprived of fuel when I drive through a puddle of water. It sounds like an electrical problem but I don't know. I can wait a few minutes and it will run fine.

Look under the car and see if the altinator is easly got to. if it is then that means water can get to it also. if it is realy humid, then that might mean you need a new one all together.

Runs fine then it trys to die and runs very ruff acts like its starving for fuel changed fuel filter and still does it ?

Check the fuel pump pressure.
Also; when you use gas with ethanol, it attracts humidity that can turn into water during storage.
The answer is premium fuel.

Engine temperature sensor faulty, not supplying correct quantity of fuel to a cooler engine, wrong cold start supply mixture.

Runs good when dry, but cant drive when raining or wet

Could be moisture ingress. Check your wire connections and plugs and clean and spray with a penetrating spray that will repel water. Does your disco have its belly plate on? Or do you drive in deep water.?

Series II 4.0 litre V8 Land Rover Discovery runs but stalls out after a few miles. The vehicle restarts after cooling down it seems. This generally takes a couple of hours or a tow back home. Service

Sounds like the same issue I had with my 2002 Discovery 2 V8. Mine used to run for about 10 minutes, then die, usually in the most inconvenient locations! The Crank sensor is in need of replacement. It sits near the exhaust downpipe (behind a heat shield) but obviously this shield isn't enough as they die after about 80,000-100,000 miles. Just get it replaced and I think your issues will solved.

My 1999 land rover discovery II shuts off while i'm driving. It acts as if i've turned off the ignition. Then it wont start back up but if i let it sit for a while it will usually start.

Sounds like the stop solenoid is playing up (smallish 27mm nut with wire(s) going to it located on the top of the high pressure pump)
They are quite cheap and straight forward DiY

CAV type pump uses part number - D82-0544

& Bosch type pumps use - D82-0545

95 Mazda Millenia runs very rough after overheating

Hi,
The compression test was a good test, but since you asked for ideas, I'd also check the following basic "naked eye" visuals:
1. Do you notice any white-ish smoke out the exhaust, especially after killing it then cranking back up?
2. With engine cold, take the radiator cap off and crank it. Does it act more violent than expected, like a geyser?
3. Loosen the oil pan drain screw to see if any water finds its way out from the bottom of the oil pan.
If so, to these tests... blown head gasket.
I hope NOT though... Good luck!
