Question about 1983 Ford Fairmont

1 Answer

ID a Fairmont part?

A loose part was found on the underside of my 78 Ford Fairmont, sticking out of a gap near the trannie (which has developed a rattling/loose-part -in-the-fan sound).
Car is a 6 cylinder 200 cu inch automatic.
Part desc: Resembles half of an apporox. 1.25" metal washer (picture the shape of a rainbow on flat ground), with two V-notches out of the outside edge. It doesn't look like something broken.. this appears to be the manufactured shape. Metal isn't very thick, but very rigid, and is smooth on both sides.
Can you tell me what it is and where it goes??

It sounds like it is a frame support, there should actually be a rubber bushing on the top of the washer, the bushing more than likely dry rotted and fell off.

Found little cream colored almost plunger looking thing in pan when changing franny fluid and filter dont know where it came from in tranny and car looses power after warm up

the thing you found is a plug that the factory has installed into the dip stick hole wile assembling the car, when the dip stick tube is installed they just push the plug into the transmission oil pan and leave it there it cant hurt anything, so when you service the transmission for the first time you find the plug and throw it away it is not needed, don't feel foolish you would be amazed at how many times i have been asked this question.

Runing on 5 cylinders number 1 cylinder is not firing sparks there but no power on lpg had wrong plugs in it just fuel plugs then we put lpg, petrol plugs da problem started then looks like valves burnt

do a compression test to make sure it is that cylinder.

once determined it is that cylinder, put a teaspoon of oil in the spark plug hole. If compression comes back then the vave is burnt, if compression stays down the rings are bad

2006 ford taurus leaked tranny fluid out of dip stick

You need to find out were the fluid is leaking from first...
It may have been because the the dip stick was half way out...
Id just keep an eye on the fluid levels and if it stays the same than that's what it could have been.
Keep us posted!!!

first to remove the fan you will need a big spanner 1, 1/4 inch to be precise and a large hammer. with the fan belts still on and tight from the top, place the spanner on the nut just behind the fan with the spanner pointing straight up. then jar the spanner with the hammer towards the battery,(opposite direction to a normal bolt) once jared loose you should be able to turn the nut off. when refitting just do up firm with spanner
