I gather that you are keeping the transmision selector handle in the Drive position.
qturn the car around and go up the hill again but this time set the selector on 2 and see if it works better.
then try it in drive position again but at a slow speed,,the trans should stay in a lower gear and pull easily.
This will tell you if the trans is shifting properly or not.

And no i doubt very much if it is the filter since you dont mention any problems on a level roadbed.

My ford 1994 Festiva struggles to take off in 1-2nd gears and I have no idea what the problem is as its my first car a friend told me it could be spark plugs or fuel filter?? Please help

How does it feel in 3-4-5 gears? Good power? Fuel filter and spark problems are usually prevalent in all gears especially higher ones. How is going up hills? Get back to me and maybe I could help.

Power loss can result from dirty air filter, plugged fuel filter, and excessive spark plug gap. Check these things and if stilll stumped get back to me.

dump a bottle of carb/injector cleaner in the tank on your next fill up and just drive it, it should get better, if not the engine may be so worn that it has low compression.

96 Ford Explorer is studdering (misfiring) when going up hills

I have the same exact problem that just started immediately AFTER I got a tranny service where they changed the Trans Fluid, Trans Filter, Fuel Filter. Took it back and they say nothing is wrong with it. Took it to the dealer thinking I could get some REAL answers... they just told me to replace spark plugs, wiring & coil, for $900. Only studders when quickly accelerating above 40mph. I've check other forums, they say to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. Haven't tried it yet. This seems the easiest before replacing spark plugs. Any other suggestions anyone?? Please.....

Losing power going over hill

well i think the piston ring are already loose, causing insufficient air compression leading to lower power especially on uphill tracks. check also for the air-fuel ratio! too much fuel usually is the cause for thick smoke emission; too much air, causes also less power.

93 ford festiva heater only blows cold air.

The heater only blows HOT air when set on defrost or floor settings. If you have the lever set for vent, only cold air will come out. Check to make sure you set the controls to floor or defrost. This is standard for all Festiva's.
