Hi, i own a 1989 mazda familia 323 gtx 1800 dohc turbo sedan (BG), currently the 4wd ABS light is on and has been on for some time, i am currently doing a Automotive Engineering course and managed to get fault codes but for a 626 model mazda, which my auto electrical tutor said are the same codes. In the code book it says there is a plug under the drivers side seat (which there is), but my problem is that the colour of the wires on the plug are different then that in the book. But this is because i live in New Zealand and my vehicle is a japannese import, so instead of bridging wires to get the code and maybe recking something iv been searching the internet for the instructions which have the right colour wires and codes but i cannot find them, so im in a bit of a pickle, because if i don't get the fault fixed i will not be able to get my next warrent of fitness, so how would i go about getting the right information. thanks

Re: 1989 Mazda 323 gtx BG
Two things... You should follow the pin numbers and not the color code. Second Check online for a service manual from Japan or the USA for that car. We got many Mazda imports here and there should be a lot of books on Ebay that would have the electrical schematics for a 323 from the USA and Canada. You are going to have to just buy a book and have it shipped to NZ.

Sounds like the waste gate is having trouble. It could be what's called a "boost leak". the waste gate is most likely internal on a factory system. On the turbo, You'll see a small, vacuum pod looking thing with a linkage connected. Check to make sure the vacuum line/hose is properly connected and run that line to make sure it's not cracked some where.
Otherwise, it could be any coupler, connection on the pipes that carry the air from the turbo to the throttle body. Even a "loose clamp" can cause boost leaks. With over boost, it's most likely the waste gate.
Good luck. Hope ya find it.
sounds like the heater tap has been bypassed. find the two holes or pipes that come out of the firewall or bulkhead and follow the hoses. if they do not have two seperate hoses on them then thats the problem. buy a heater tap and fit it with some new hose
If the light is staying on, there is some problem with the system. the light comes on at startup as it soes a selftest. If it stays on, sounds like you will need a code reader to find out what the issue is. Try your local autoparts house. They often have a code reader and will help you diagnose the issue.
I have a Mazda Capella (626) 1998 and had similar problem other than it was running on 4 cylinders and the hand brake light was not on and the ANSWER was a speed sensor which is to do with ABS system needed replacing. You can determine which one is broken by putting volt meter over each of them.
