Exhaust glows red hot

Mazda rx 8 creates a lot of heat, to fix this you must change out the coolant every 20k miles, with the mazda brand coolant i think its called mazda f22 coolant, the engine stays hot due to the high RPM engine, you may want to check: ignition coils, cat, coolant, and do a compression test.

Can't locate fuel injectors on mazda rx 8

Hi. They are buried way down on top of the engine. Its just a matter of removing everything directly on top of the engine to get at the fuel rails. Just out of curiosity why are you removing them?. Jon

The mazda rx8 is hard starting and not idling properly. How do u set the timing for the rotas. Do u have a diagram

there are no timing on the rotors for a wankel engine. The timing is controlled by a computer for the RX-8. The sensors & distributors can be adjusted on the RX7's & other Mazdas but I know that there were major engine changes to the RX-8 so I can't tell you for sure. I use to have an RX-7 and worked on it all the time.

Replacing starter motor

MONTEREY, Calif. -- After suffering a black eye from disclosing that it won't count RX-8 owners' opinions in its internal customer-satisfaction scores, Mazda says it may have to replace the engines in many of its flagship sports cars.

The voluntary recall of all 2004 and 2005 vehicles, and some 2006s, is expected to be announced this week or next. It involves damage to the catalyst resulting from oil leaks in the RX-8's rotary engine.

Any engine that does not pass a vacuum test must be replaced, said Robert Davis, head of product development and quality at Mazda North American Operations.

Engines prone to failing the test are mostly in hot climates and use synthetic oils.

Mazda also will check each RX-8's battery and starter, which tend to fail in cold climates.

"We're going to give these cars the white-glove treatment," Davis said. "We would rather replace the engine than have the dealer crack them open."

Davis would not disclose the projected failure rate of the engines or the cost to replace them.

Mazda has a remanufacturing center in North Carolina that will rebuild faulty engines and return them to service.

The recall comes after a video Webcast by two dealers who attended the July 11-13 National Dealer Advisory Council meetings in Newport Beach, Calif., was leaked on the Internet.

In the video, dealers said problems with the RX-8 were unfairly lowering Mazda customer-satisfaction scores.

Mazda informed the dealers that RX-8 owners would continue to be surveyed, but that the responses would not factor into dealer
customer-satisfaction scores. See story here

Mazda has issued service bulletins on such trouble spots as squeaky
brakes and engine flooding.

2004 mazda wont start, blew a front tire and had to be put on rollback. Sat all nite, and now wont start. will crank and can smell fuel.

flooded engine common problem remove all plugs and fuel pump fuse. get fuel out of engine do not istall fuel pump fuse re install all plugs I suggest a good charger be used as system can kill batt very quick run to wires from fuel pump fuse into seating area start cranking the engine over wires not touching once compression sounds alright touch wires to geather (may have to repeat these deflooding wire touching procedure many times) once started do not turn off car till normal operating temp . Once hot turn car off remove wires and re install fuel pump fuse .With RX-8 u cannot just start and stop car right away as in washing car as it can produce this same condition ALWAYS let car warm up before turning off.

Wont start. cranks over.

Ignore the first reply ("no plugs on a rotary...").

The RX-8's plugs (there's 4) are found offset down by the right-hand side of the engine bay (looking in from the front). Access is easier from the passenger-side (UK) wheel bay - jack car and remove wheel for easy access.

Points to note: There are two different types of plugs fitted (2 each of 2 types = 4 plugs), for each rotor housing there's the leading plug, and trailing plug. Ensure that you replace the correct plugs in each position.

I'm sure you know by now - when you drive the RX-8, let the engine warm-up before switching off, or in dire-need, use the recommended procedure in the owners handbook - hold revs at 4000 then switch off (with foot still on accel) to avoid flooding the engine.

87chevyG30 5.7lV8 core plug removed w/out taking out engine?

You should not have to pull the motor to replace any of the freeze plugs, except the 2 on back of engine block witch requires engine removel or trans. removel. Depending on witch one thats leaking. There are 3 on each side, and 2 on the rear of engine, most common one to leak is the one above the starter, witch requires starter removel, there is one in the middle thats you have to jack up engine to remove engine mount to get too. There all located below exhaust manafold on each side. They are a bear to chg. but can be done without engine removel.
