Yes i have the same problem.

  • Anonymous Jun 26, 2008

Have the same problem, have been to a Renualt dealership and have confirm that a new dash clocks panel has to be installed, but did note that this is not a wear & tear (basically manufacturing fault) costs to fix this is quiet expensive, which I don't think the costs should be imposed on the customer.

  • Anonymous Jul 13, 2008

I have a Renault scenic 2005 which has just developed exactly the same problem.

  • greville Nov 05, 2008

Yes. same problem with a 2005 Grand Scenic. The service warning light started to come on intermittently for two days before it went blank.

  • do-lally Jan 13, 2009

yep, same thing here. started intermitantly, but now totally blank. i have a 55 plate megane grand scenic, with 27,500 miles on the clock.

  • GGGW Feb 02, 2009

Blank dashboard. 55 plate with 24k miles. There are lots of other forums with the same problem. Definitely a manufacturing fault. I suggest people go to watchdog about this item and fill in their online form. Renault charge £600 to repair however there are other people around (try ebay) that can do this for less.

    Hi

I have a Renault Scenic 2004. The dash board lights comes and goes. Really frightening.

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2009

It happened to me too, I am just about to chage my car I don't know what I am going to do..

  • young2703 Mar 09, 2009

I have the same problem with the dashboard on my 04 Grand Scenic. Just gone through 31,000 miles. Dash started to bleep & flash, gave a few warning messages about faulty tyre pressures before failing completely. About to change the car, so I'm not very pleased, especially as the more I look into this problem I realise it's an extremely common one that Renault are refusing to acknowledge. I've filled in the Watchdog form online & contacted VOSA as I believe Renault should do an immediate safety recall for all vehicles that could have this potential problem as the dashboard is a fundamental part of the car. Quite a few people seem to have a different mileage too when the dash has been repaired, doesn't this have serious consequences when buying a second hand car, always thought anything that would change the official mileage on a car was illegal - Renault seem to be getting away with it with their manufacturing fault!!.

  • hshobson992 Mar 15, 2009

We ahve the same issue on our 53 Reg Grand Espace 2.2

Started with tyre pressure warnings and then the stop light illuminating before the whole thing began blinking and then going out completely.

A smart smack on the dash will bring it back on for random periods of time but hardly what you would expect to have to do to an expensive vehicle.

  • mike919 Apr 04, 2009

Same car, same problem. The clock kept resetting itself (and bleeped each time) and then the entire display went blank.
Annoyingly, we just had the car serviced at a Renault main dealer last week. When I mentioned the resetting clock I was invited to pay £75 for their diagnostic test (any repair would obviously be extra).
Not immediately keen to take up their offer, I asked about the likelihood of further electronic malfunctions rendering the vehicle unroadworthy and was told that, if it occurred, it wouldn't affect the driveability of the car. I'm not sure of my ground here, but I think  it's illegal to drive without a speedo and with no in-car info regarding indicators.
My view on this is that I was rather recklessly allowed to take away and continue driving the car when there was  a considerable chance of a complete instrument malfunction. Or else I came across the one Renault employee who has not heard of this problem.
To be fair to Renault, I wasn't able to contact them yesterday, but if the other postings are anything to go by, I'm not too optimistic.
Where do I find the Watchdog Form?

I have 55 plate Scenic & the same problem. I have heard about Renault contributing towards the cost of replacing. Anyone else heard this?

I have had lots of misery with my Scenic. This one is the latest. I use it very little; only 75000km on clock since 2004, but will not sell because of ridiculous offers, and I would not want to pass my problems onto an innocent private buyer. I decided to drive until it collapses onto the chassis. The weather in South Africa is rather warm, but it does stand for long periods and I have the battery recharged before using. First the clock no longer retains correct time after the car is turned off.

Have a look at renaultcustomer.com and howtomendit.com for an idea JUST how widespread this problem is - big campaign on to get victims to contact Watchdog, please join! Yes, Renault will charge £500-£700 to fix and may or may not help out with cost (small %) BUT you can get it fixed via some online companies - try Cluster Repairs UK or ECUtesting on Google. About £200 with either. Hope this helps - though Renault should of course be covering costs, so ring their Customer Care line and get a case reference first.

Hey all i have the numbers for people who can repair this problem, ICS Car Tech 02871 301023 or 07599 159222 came highly recommended by my local mechanic who has been using them for years. If you ask to speak to Liam, found him very helpful.

Just a warning to people who are considering having this fault 'repaired' by a Renault Dealer. The information I have is that this is a design flaw in the Instrument Cluster which Renault have failed to solve. Having your car repaired by a Renault dealer will consist of them replacing your Instrument Cluster with a new one which still contains the same fault. This 'repair' comes with a 12 month warranty.

I posted my Instrument Cluster to ICS (mentioned in a previous post) at 5:00pm on Wednesday 7th October and received a phone call today (Thursday 8th October) at 4:00pm to say it has been fixed. And this is an actual fix for the problem, not just a replacement part. It even comes with a 3 year warranty.

Same problem on 05 plate Grand Scenic 1.9dci. Spoke to local Renault dealer (in my case Parks of Ayr) and he immediately agreed to do it for £100 customer contribution. Let them know you know the problem and they seem now to be doing it cheaper than sending it away. It has a one year warranty.

Unfortunately hazard switches arent as they were and i would very much doubt that is your fault. this is a common fault with the scenic electronic dash unfortunatley and it is likely you will need a new one which has to be set up by the dealer, £350 ish for dash plus about £200 labour and I have even heard of one case having 2 or three dashes in quick succession. sorry dude

Many faults within the indicator systems on all cars comes down to "hazard" switch problems. If the switch gets dirty inside from ash or the like the switch can fail to re-connect properly when the hazards are turned off
Sometimes rapid on and off movement several times clears the fault but not necessarily a permanant fix
Try it first to prove it and if OK for a few days then replace the hazard switch

I would have a load test done on the battery to determine if it is faulty ( saves on a new battery if the fault is in the terminals or else where.)

05 Renault Grand Scenic. No dipped headlights. Bulbs and fuses OK

Are u sure that the bulbs are OK? I had no dipped lights on mine, & thought it must be a fuse or another electrical fault. It turned out, both bulbs had gone. I think this often happens when one side goes, the other soon follows.

Renault grand scenic 1.6 55 plate . no dashboard lights just blank

I had the same problem go to ECUTESTING.COM the cluster is very simple to remove. Carefully unclip/prise the direct surrounding from around the cluster and then unplug the wiring (2 plugs on the front) now unscrew the 2 screws on each end and gentle remove the digial cluster unit. ABOUT A 10-15MINS JOB. All this can be done sitting in your drivers set.Send it to the above cost about £195 and they'll send it back with a 2yr warrenty. Dealer charges in the region of £400.
