Question about 2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
For the last 2 days my Battery/ Alternator light has been on, it is only on for about 3 min, then it goes out. I havn't seen it until my car has been sitting over night and I start it in the morning. Could it be both or my battery?
It will be the alternator if your battery is under 2 years old.
Batteries lose their capacity after a few years due to a process known as sulphation. White crystaline deposits form, preventing electron flow.
This can actually be reduced and eliminated thesedays by installing a desulphator, or using one in conjunction with a charger. I've recovered 3 batteries so far since I made one, two of which were scrap due to sulphation.
The battery companies don't want you to know about these - that's why batteries only have a 3 year guarantee on them.
If the alternator is faulty, it can be serviced for 1/3 of the price of new.
Hope this provides a solution for you. If so, please take a moment to rate as Fixya! Thanks.
