No, I figured out after using a swivel head telescopic inspection mirror that I have a cracked hose that feeds into the tank right at the base of the hose. So i was wondering which was easier dropping the tank or removing my bed. I have a buddy who sad it would be eaiser to just clean the cracked area with some light sand paper and seal it with some JB weld. Any thoughts?

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger with the same problem. Fuel will puddle at fill up and run down the side of the tank (from the top) until the level is low enough not to. Upon exiting, after shutting the engine off, the smell of raw gas is always there.

I my friend have a question for you...
Did you top of the fuel tank after your last fill up?

It might be your fuel over flow tube under the bike,
that the smell is coming from.
It is designed to discharge the overflow safely
on the road beneath you...

Check it...Good luck.

do you have injector pulse durng initial cranking? you may have a bad cam shaft position sensor that "comes to life" when rpms are up. or an injector has a bad spray nozzle allowing fuel to flow into its cylinder, pulling the spark plugs and checking for any that may be "wet" or smell ''rich'' will help pin-point your problem.

Why Fuel leak at fuel up, Ford E-150 2003

You really need to get under the vehicle and have someone poor in the fuel to exactly see where the leak is coming from. It's probably got to do with cracks in rubber hose or the hose clamps needs to be tightened. The fuel filler neck is composed of metal and rubber tubes connected with clamps, you'll get it when you see it.

The hose is on the side of the gas cap and it runs down to the bottom of the quarter panel. When I filled the gas tank up, gas comes out of this hose. We just had the fuel pump replaced. Its not leaking...

There are normally two hose lines from the fuel filler that run to the tank. The larger one carries the fuel from the nozzle to the tank. The smaller one is a vent hose that allows vapors to leave the top of the tank while filling. These vapors come back to the nozzle area and can be vented and/or collected by the nozzle depending upon air pollution standards in your area. If your second hose is running to the bottom of the quarter panel, it is probably the vent hose that may not have been reconnected at the top of the tank when the fuel pump was replaced. The fuel running down there is from kickback fuel at the time the pump shuts off. The real problem is that the vent line is open on top of the tank and when the tank is full, that can allow vapors and fuel to escape out of there and it could contact hot exhaust areas - a major fire or explosion hazard. Have this inspected and repaired IMMEDIATELY.

I have an 87 ford ranger xlt 2.9. I just replaced both fuel pumps and now i went from 18mpg to 6.5 mpg. Can anyone tell me what could cause this.

somethings leaking, probably one of the hoses you disconnected at the fuel tank. as the 2nd fuel pump is in the fuel line and much easier to get to. that kind of drop in mileage would have to be a leak.

Have a '91 Ranger, had a mech replace oem fuel filler hose to enable sucessful evap test results BUT now fuel only ''trickles'' from gas pump nozzle and clicks OFF constantly... ''Q'' > WAS THE TANK RE...

the filler hose has a vent pipe or hose inside of it or alongside of it. If the vent hose is blocked, you can't get the air out of the tank while it is filling so you end up with "Spitback" or pump kick off.

The aftermarket unit may not have a vent hose. Did the original pipe have an internal vent hose or external?

Brake line behind fuel tank leaking

You can just feed a new line over the tank and try to clip it onto the existing one. Best of luck, hope the job goes ok.

was the CEL on and fuel cap light on before you had the fuel pump replaced? if it was after the repairs were performed, double check all evaporative emissions lines, hose, and connection on and around the fuel tank. also make the the fuel filler neck is properly seated and clamped to fuel tank. if all good, check the plastic fuel filler top (just behind fuel door, where you put fueling nozzle) make sure it is not chipped or cracked anywhere. especially where the rubber seal from the cap rides.

Broken line after fuel pump replacement

All the fuel lines in the modern fuel pump in tank vehicles need the 2-3 lines hooked up, so it would be a good idea to do so. Rick
