Battery died and now key is stuck in the ignition and it will not start. I jumped the vehicle off and now the whole truck is locked up. It will not release the key, will not go in gear, it seems as if there is a security issue as if the car has a theft protection device on it. The battery is currently dead. What should I do to get the vehicle back to opererating condition? Please help if you can. Thanks

Dead battery prevents the key from coming out. Its some kind of lock out feature.

Ignition key stuck and cant turn of vehicle

If you're in a pinch you can disconnect the ignition coil to shut your vehicle down...DON"T disconnect the battery as this can cause damage.
From there you'll be able to check the key tumbler/ignition for issues within the steering column. Good luck!

Key is locked in ignition, no power, dead?

It could very well be that the battery is dead. Did it just stop working? Usually there is an indication that the battery may be dying. When you open your car door, the interior light does not come on?

Key in ignition stucked

battery died somehow in two days - More then likely your vehicle has what is call a parasitic drain on the electrical system (battery) . Something is not turning off when it is suppose to . The key will not come out because of lack of battery power . Safety system-won't let the key be turned all the way off an removed again because of no power . You have to get it jump started an get it off the street . Then check out vides on youtube on find parasitic draw .

I left my trunk door open all night and my battery died. I thought the key I use for the ignition would be the same key to unlock the door if the battery died? How do I enter my 2006 Dodge stratus with the...

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

The key lock/unlock for doors are powered by the batteries in the remote, while the ignition key draws its energy from the vehicle via induction. Since the battery is dead you are having this problem. You need to call assistance from the nearby auto shop or a locksmith. I guess you don't have any other option.

Car has to be jumped frequently, multiple batteries, and dies when driving

I hesitate to suggest this, but it does work well. After you start the engine, and while running. Unhook the negative battery cable. If the vehicle stalls, you have a bad alternator.

Ha this used to happen to me with my sunfire. Just wiggle the steering wheel while trying to wiggle the key out. Sometimes the steering wheel locks up and then keys will get stuck in ignition. Hope this helps.

Check the ignition switch by pressing and holding the key hard into the ignition and try starting. If it does not start right away, problem is elsewhere.
