Question about 1991 Chevrolet Lumina

1991 Chevolet Lumina Stalling

My Chevolet Lumina has been a pretty reliable car. It has almost 200,000 miles. The car started this week stalling, cutting out. Once stalled I could not get restarted, the motor did turn over but no starting. Had towed to my mechanic. The next morning it started right up. I had the fuel pump, fuel filter replaced. Took for a test drive seemed ok. Driving home with air condition on stalled out about 15 minutes after leaving my mechanics garage. Turned off air conditioner and could not get restarted. Had car towed to my home. Car started this morning no problem. Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks, Chuck

Make sure you EGR is not totally clogged or not working as well. Then once you know that is good. You will then want to put the car against a wall or something like it. You will want to disconnnect the battery for a few minutes. Then you replug in the battery start the car and put it in drive. DO NOT touch anything SPECIFICALLY the GAS or BRAKE. wait til you hear the fans kick on. This is how your computer relearns. Mine would run just fine and start when cold but the warmer it got the worse.
    Thanks and keep me posted,

When I had this problem the iginition module happened to go around the same time. So I had that replaced drove it home and found that wasn't the only problem. It only takes about 15 minutes for car to fully warm up and thats when it is the worst. The car would restart but only by gasing it etc. Then I would have to throw it in neutral when stopping and give it gas to keep it running. Did the above then it ran like a champ.
    Thanks,
    Lee

You shouldn't have to replace anything, just take the TPS off and clean it out.
    Thanks,

I was just wondering if you accepted the solution, I see that it was voted but it doesn't look like it was accepted.

hi geoff, the best way to sort out this problem is to get a diagnostic done at a dealer on the computer.ask for a detailed (no codes) answer and then you can do the work yourself,if you are competent.cost £45 at most main dealers but skoda and seat are cheaper.....

Free things to try: Take it to Auto Zone or some auto parts store and they can check the battery, alternator, and hook the thing to their computer to look for trouble codes for you.

Things you have to pay for: Take it to the auto shop and have them check the timing, spark plugs, and they can translate the trouble codes into language you understand.
