Push the "2 hi" switch while you're driving it.

You can do this while you're driving, as these systems have "shift on the fly".

You will hear / feel a "clunk" when the system disengages, and you will see the "2 hi" light come back on..

2005 nissan armada 4wd shift indicator light doesnt go off

If after watching the following video http://youtu.be/O3875kUfoPc and or consulting with your car's owner's manual to make sure you are going through the proper procedures to disengage the four wheel wheel drive system, you most likely have a mechanical problem...like in the transfer case shift module; bad dash sensor; wheel sensor, or a blown fuse to the switch that controls the electrical impulse to the 4X4 actuator; or a bad seal within the wheel hub, etc.

Bulb in four wheel drive dash switch burned out

if it burned out, but the 4wd works, the only way to fix it is to remove the dash. you might have to replace the switch, or just the bulb. a cheap fix, but one that is not fun to fix.

4x4 issue could be either the TCCM Transfer Case Control Module, or the transfer case shift motor.

When you turn your dash switch from 2wd to 4HI, can you hear the shift motor underneath operating?

Four wheel drive wont engage

If you have push button 4-Wheel Drive, it is recommended that you use it every once in a while, in order to keep gunk, rust, and corrosion to build up on moving parts. The mostly likeley (though not definite) reason would be that you let the 4-wheel drive unused for so long that corrosion has built up on the parts and the actuator that engages the 4-Wheel Drive doesn't have the power to engage it past the corrosion. You'll need to take it in to be cleaned, or to have parts replaced. In the future, every month or so, engage 4-Wheel Drive and drive around in some mud, grass, sand, or any other loose ground for a bit, just to keep the parts moving and clean.

The service Four wheel drive light is to alert the operator the system is not being read properly by the ECU.

If the ECU loses contact with or position of the Transfer case actuator motor the service light will come on. Same thing goes for the front diff actuator.

So it may be a bad switch, sensor, or an actual problem in the 4WD linkage. This is not a Oil Change light that you can ignore a few extra weeks - it indicates a problem that should be taken care of ASAP to avoid costlier problems down the road.

4x4 does not engage the dash switch selector does not light up

Does the vehicle in gage into 4 wheel drive at all? You can tell by putting it in 4 wheel drive and see how it moves. You can feel the difference. Also it does sounds like a short somewhere in the wiring under the dash

Surburban has gone into four wheel drive and will not come out

you might want to check the gear selector switch that is located on the driver side of the tranny, if the 4x4 is electric and not manual for engagement, selector must read neutral to disengage 4 wheel drive. by experience if you drove it through deep water gear selector switch can get damaged.
