I have a 93 hyundai Scoupe with a few intermittent problems. First is that after running for short periods of time, it sometimes will not start again for a while. The engine is cranking, but not catching. This only happens once in a while though. I never have any problems starting it after it has been sitting cold for any length of time, such as over night. Another problem I occasionally have is the rpms will surge to 3k and hold there for usually no more than a minute. It will still drive no problem, and corrects itself while driving or sitting in nuetral. When in gear, the car will pull itself while this is happening, speeding up in lower gears without braking, but still controllable. However, if the car is turned off while surging, it will not start again right away. Can anyone tell me what I could do to troubleshoot these problems?

If you have a national auto parts chain store near you (autozone, advanced auto parts, pep boys, etc etc) Have them hook up an obd2 tester to your car and see if any codes come up(they do this for free!!!). If nothing then I would check the ignition switch module inside the steering column, it may be energizing the starter motor but not sending a signal to the ecu that the car is trying to be started.
You may have a bad computer (this happens sometimes) from whomever you bought it from. It may just need a reflash (Usually companies will do this for free) or just exchanged.
Is it still under warranty? Could be! Take it into Hyundai Service Center, have it checked/ diagnosed. At least the wiring/connections can be checked to see if they are the problem.. then again, the problem is intermittent, and those are the most difficult to run down Sometimes a "shock" or "wiggle" test reveals the cause.
When you crank the engine the fuel pump powers on for approximately 3 sec. pressurizing system.....once vehicle starts the power will be continuous....
