www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=54266 Mar 3, 2013 - I recently bought a 1993 6.0 V12 XJS and when it is started from cold it runs ... to 1300 RPM so it wants to surge forward when braking which is strange. ...Classics · XJS 3.6,4.0,5.3 & 6.0; 6.0 V12 XJS High RPM When Warm ... You might want to adjust the aux (extra) air valve to bring the idle speed down.
Faulty engine temperature sensor ?? On a cold start the temperature sensor should detect a cold engine and give a signal to the ecu to increase fuel ratio until the engine has warmed up. sounds like faulty sensor to me.
The Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) may need cleaning or replacement.
This valve lets air bypass the throttle plate so that the engine can idle. The more air, the faster the idle. If this valve is sticky, the computer may have a hard time regulating the idle properly and may surge.
i know this may sound stupid but if your battery is old or a little weak on this vehicle the idle air control solenoid will act speradicley hunting for were it should be and the vehicle will stall.replace battery
Problem might be the air control valve, it's located at the right side rear of intake manifold and has a hose going to the air intake duct from the air cleaner, as a test you might try pinching off that hose when the idle is a problem.
