Question about 1993 Chevrolet Camaro

Camaro Intake problem?

Car started fine one day then I started it after a meeting and it had some smoke, ran rich, and sputters. looking at the air intake and there looks to be oil in it. I was told before that the intake gasket needs to be replaced. Would it sound like that might be the problem?

You need to replace the intake gasket, no doubt.

There may be a problem with the idle air control circuit. Make sure that the throttle body and idle air passages are clean. If not, you may have to do a throttle body cleaning on it. You can follow the directions on the can, but you will have to make sure that you give it a few shots with the throttle plate closed, so that the cleaner can get into the idle air passages. Also, make sure that there are no vacuum leaks and there is not any un-metered air that is entering into the intake. If the exhaust is blowing out and blue smoke, then the piston rings may be worn or stuck and the combustion chamber all carbon built up. If it blows out black smoke, then it's running too rich.

Vacuum leak or timing check all vacume lines and air intake look for any cracks or hole in air intake after your air intake sensor map or maf whatever u have on a kia. Bad air leak can foul your plugs fast.

1998 Camaro starts just fine, will back out of the driveway and put into drive. Car will sputter, backfire, black smoke out of exhaust and not keep running. Has done this 3 times in the last month...

i had the same trouble with my 98 3.8lt 3800 series II. i changed the spark plugs still no dice i changed the cables still same problem i then changed coil packs and the control piece under the coil packs that fixed it. the misfire caused it tho run rich ,which cause black smoke you might also run some fuel cleaner through it on a tank of primium gas. hope this helps

More than one issue, maybe? Also consider other experts' solutions.

First, it sounds like the EGR valve is sticking open. The exhaust valve is
supposed to be closed when idling, otherwise open. It recirculates exhaust back into the manifold; can't idle car very well when the valve is open, but should not cause backfire.

U is generally an ignition timing issue: the ECM (electronic control module) is responsible for that. Check it / replace it.

Worst case: small break in one of the head gaskets (not likely, but symptom is the same).

Vacuum leak, too???
Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction!
