Question about 1999 Dodge Dakota
Sounds like either a headlight switch or a broken ground. Did you lose both the hi and low beams? Do your parking lights work? The headlight switch outputs to the hi/low selector on the column. If both hi and low beams are out I would check output voltage from the switch. Sounds ike that make be your issue. Good luck and let me know if I can assist further.

Check to see if the the fuse is good with a test light check headlamp switch for power and ground also the turn signal switch switch the high beams on and off 5 or 6 times kinda fast with headlamps in the on position and see if they flicker at all if they do replace multifunction switch(turn signal switch)make sure your ignition switch wiring isnt melted and do you have non factory installed trailer hitch wiring installed if so check all fuses again the aftermarket trailer harness will have a fuse in line with the harness not inside power distribution center (fuse box)
