Question about 2004 Nissan Altima

Open Question

I have an oil leak on my 2004 Altima. It appears to be from somewhere around the oil filter. However I'm certain it's not the oil filter itself. Any thoughts on what it could be. Or even suggestions on how to pin point it. Thank you. Jeff

SOURCE: Nissan Altima 2000 - Engine oil leaking problem.

replace the front oil seal. first i would clean the engine with purple power (degrease etc.) then look at the engine and make sure the leak is not coming from above like possibly the valve cover gasket or from the oil sending unit. try to tighten the bolts on the valve cover and even the oil pan. you never know, you may get lucky. i don't know where you are but front seals are cheap but the labor on the job is what costs you.

SOURCE: Ihave a small oil leak

it could be the filter mount or even the oil filter seal.i think the oil pressure sender is located in the area and it could be the leak.

I have an 03 Nissan Altima v6 it's leaking oil around the oil filter but it has a part I've never seen. It looks sort of like an oil filter adapter but it has 2 hoses coming off of it

That's part of the oil cooler. There are posts and videos online about replacing the o-ring. That engine/setup was used in other models also, so maybe a writeup on the murano or other vehicle could help as well.

Is there a certain type of gasket or something else when there is a oil leak starting in a 1998 pontiac firefly

clean around the oil pan gasket area well as some oil leaks are actually rocker cover gasket and filter leaks that run down the block and appear as pan leaks.. Check front crankshaft seal as the oil from there also appears as a pan leak

I have a 2004 Nissan Altima and i had my oil changed and the service guy told me that i had a small leak around the oil filter. He actualy said it was inside the housing, it could easily be replaced, even...

I think he is saying you have a gasket leak at the filter housing, you will need proper tools to do this and a catch can of sort when you remove the oil filter cause you will have oil drop down.

I would say do not tackle this problem if you have no tools and are uncertain on how to approach this repair on your own, take it to a Repair Shop that you know or a referral of a good repair shop in your area.

Oil leaking around or near the oil filter

Might have to take the filter off wipe the O-ring thats on the filter clean and the area where the filter will be going on to the block. Probably has some dirt where the filter seats on the block.

When i do oil change, oil leaks somewhere around the oil filter, after the engine warm up leak stops. is not leaking its driping.

when you remove the old oil filter. insure the old filter seal came off with the filter. then when installing the new filter wet the new seal of the filter with a little oil. just dip your finger into new oil and smear it on the seal.

OIL LEAK COMING CLOSE TO THE OIL FILTER

if you had recently done or had an oil change done sometimes the gasket from the old oil filter sticks to the block. when you install the new oil filter it ends up with 2 gaskets and leaks around the base where filter meets oil cooler. another posability is the oil pressure sending unit is mounted just above the filter.
