Question about 2001 Dodge Durango

Driving lights Trying to add driving lights to my 01 Durango. The kit has relay, and I want them to come on while headlamps on low beam only. I tried connecting them to headlamp wire with no sucesss. Its like they would stay on after I turned headlamps off. any suggestions. Thanks

    Hi, Thanks for info, That is basically what I done. 4 pole relay. Red to batt, Black to fog lights, blue to ground, And yellow to low beam, trouble is when I test headlamp harness with bulb removed It is hot with switch off. I hooked yellow to side marker lamp and works perfect but I dont want them on when side marker is on, just when low beam. When I hook yellow to low beam it stays on all the time, even with headlamps turned off.

Ok on durangos your lights do stay on till they time out sometimes run the hot wire for your driving lights out to the hot wire to your head lights one or the other side they are both on a fuse i think the low beam color is purple whith a strip or white or black the black is ground but this will allow your driving lights to come on only on low beam

Most likelly you shoul have a universal 5 or 4 leg relay type if you do conect the number 30 straight to a batterie power with an online fuse, then the #87 to the driving lights circuit, then the #86 to straight ground, then the #85 to the low beam circuit, and the leg or contact in the center of relay leave it along dont use it, since that one will be constant power even with everithing off

No low beam. Good high beam. No day lights. What's wrong?


No on the fuse . The LH HDLP and RH HDLP fuse in the fuse block - under hood, supply battery positive voltage to both low and high beam lamps at all times. For manual operation, when the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the headlamp switch supplies ground directly to the headlamps and to the body control module (BCM) on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal to determine if the conditions are present to illuminate the daytime running lamps or park lamps.
The headlamps may be turned on 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the ON position, for manual operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the OFF position activating automatic lamp control (ALC).For ALC operation, the BCM receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under low light conditions the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit energizing the headlamp control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground through the headlamp switch to the headlamps and the BCM on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. When the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit it also grounds the park lamp relay control circuit illuminating the park lamps. The headlamp relay is grounded at G203.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The low beam headlamps operate at reduced intensity when in daytime running lamps (DRL) mode. The ground circuit to the switch side of the DRL relay has a resistor in-line to reduce the intensity of the low beam headlamps for DRL operation. The body control module (BCM) receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under daylight conditions the BCM grounds the DRL relay control circuit energizing the DRL control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground directly to the low beam headlamps and to the BCM on the headlamp low beam signal circuit. The low beam headlamps now illuminate with reduced intensity. The DRL relay is grounded at G203. Any time the headlamps are illuminated the DRL will not illuminate. Manual park lamps do not effect DRL operation.

Headlight low beam on my envoy 2006 not working


The headlamp driver module (HDM) is an electronic module that provides electrical power to the vehicle low beam headlamps. The HDM is controlled by a pulse width modulated (PWM) ground signal from the body control module (BCM). The BCM determines the desired lamp intensity using the ambient light sensor, multifunction switch and the park brake switch as inputs. In general, the HDM will operate in 1 of 3 modes:

Reduced Intensity Mode: This mode is used by features that do not require or allow maximum low beam headlamp intensity such as daytime running lights (DRL) (nominal: 85% duty cycle).

Full Intensity Mode: This mode is used by features that require full low beam headlamp intensity such as low beam headlamp operation in manual or auto modes (nominal: 100% duty cycle).

Off Mode: This is the default mode of the system that will occur when none of the features described above are active. The BCM will deactivate its PWM output (0% duty cycle) during this mode.

The normal battery voltage input to the HDM must be between 6 and 16 volts DC to operate. Any deviation to these values could cause improper operation.
Major components of this system are the BCM, HDM, ambient light sensor, multifunction switch, park brake switch and low beam headlamps.

When the body control module (BCM) senses a request for headlamp or daytime running lamp (DRL) illumination, the BCM sends a pulse width modulated (PWM) ground signal to the low beam headlamp driver module through the low beam headlamp driver module control circuit. How can the lights be disabled that stay on all the time ?


Have you tried replacing the headlamp power relay in the underhood fuse/relay box ?
Headlights Circuit Description
Voltage to the headlamp switch is available at all times from the HDLP SW fuse 7 through CKT 1940 (ORN). When the headlamp switch is turned to the HDLP position, the headlamp power relay coil is energized through CKT 352 (WHT). A signal is also sent to the body control module (BCM) that the headlamp switch is ON. When the headlamp switch is in the AUTO or PARK position, the ambient light sensor (located in the right speaker grill) senses either daylight or darkness and sends the signal to the BCM. When the Ambient Light Sensor detects a dark condition, the BCM produces a signal that will energize the headlamp power relay through CKT 352. The relay coil is grounded through terminal F7 connector 2 of the UBEC to CKT 350 (BLK) to G102. When the headlamp power relay is energized the relay supplies power to the LT HDLP and RT HDLP fuses. The RH low beam headlamp receives current through CKT 198 (DK BLU) from the RT HDLP fuse. The LH low beam headlamp receives current through CKT 712 (YEL/BLK) from the LT HDLP fuse. Both headlamp low beam bulbs are grounded by CKT 524 (PPL) through the UBEC to the multifunction switch (low position) contacts through CKT 10 (YEL) to the headlamp grounding relay in the body relay block through the normally closed contacts to CKT 1850 (BLK) to G200.

Low beams dont work and only one high beam works


Do you know how to do voltage drop testing ? Leave the blubs in there sockets turn the low beams on , measure voltage on the power side , LH low beam yellow with black stripe an for the RH low beam dark blue wire . If you have battery voltage there, power side is good . Then check ground side both are yellow wires , test with lights on . if you see 6 volts , 12 volts .anything more then .03 millivolts you have a ground side problem . The lights ground through the light switch .

2004 Saturn low beam lights don't work


Saturn what , ION , VUE , L300 LW300 ? Did you check the fuses ? 2.2 l headlamp relay . The lights are controlled by the BCM - body control module .
The headlamps may be turned ON 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the HEAD position, for normal operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the AUTO position, during operation in low light conditions.
On vehicles with manual headlamps, the LH HDLP and RH HDLP fuse in the fuse block - underhood, supply battery positive voltage to both low beam lamps and high beam lamps at all times. The low beam and high beam circuits continue through the fuse block - underhood, through the body control module (BCM), and to the headlamp switch. The low beam or high beam circuit then, depending on the position of the dimmer switch, continues through the headlamp switch. When the headlamp switch is placed in the ON position, it provides a ground path for the low beam or high beam lamps through G203. The low beam and high beam circuits are monitored by the BCM.
I don't think this is a fuse problem ! more then likely a headlamp switch or dimmer switch or a ground problem or relay if your vehicle has 2.2l engine !

By "normal lights" I assume you mean "low-beam headlamps"? If this is true, then you may either have burned out headlamp bulbs or a faulty low-beam headlamp relay or relay circuit.

I have a 2006 ford escape and the passenger head light low beam will not work. Tried replacing the bulb, and check fuses nothing is working.. what else can I try?


Both your low beam and your high beam is protected by the same fuse, so it makes sense that the fuse is OK if the high beam is working on the passenger side. There are 3 fuses for the headlamps. Fuse #13 in the Battery Junction Box (20 Amp). If this fuse is blown, the headlamp relay will not have any power and neither high nor low beam on either side will work (you will have no headlamps at all) Then there is Fuses #2 and #3 (15 Amp) in the Battery Junction Box. #2 goes to the left low and high beam and #3 goes to the right low and high beam.
The headlamp switch uses a SINGLE CIRCUIT to control BOTH sides at the same time, so if one side works, the switch cannot be the problem. The headlamp relay provides power for fuses #2 and #3 and we already ascertained that these fuses must have power since we have working lights on both sides, so the relay cannot be the problem. A replacement bulb has already been tried, so that pretty much leaves us with a bad lamp socket. (Most likely cause) or a bad connection at splice #S122, which is located in the main wiring harness near the breakout for the left headlamp. (RED/BLACK wire)

My headlights dont work,.all other lights are fine though,.is it the fuses or the bulbs? im not sure what fuses they would be,.there seem to be different ones for the same thing


do your flash to pass lamps light when you pull the stalk towards you? If yes, the bulbs are ok.
Do the hig beams work?
Your headlamps have sepaerate fuses for each headlamp and you have a low beam relay and a high beam relay under the hood in the black box.
If everything is out, I suspect a bad headlamp switch.
Check car-part.com and look on page with * for cheapest price.

Your owner manual will identify fuses & relays.

PS, You did not recently instal high current bulbs did you? If yes, put originals back in.

HEADLAMPS

The voltage is supplied to the lamp switch through a fuse. This fuse is located in the central junction box in the left-hand footwell.
When the headlamps are switched on, a voltage is supplied to the high beam/low beam switch and to the low beam relay. The relay for the low beam is located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.
If the high beam/low beam switch is set to "low beam", then a voltage is supplied through the low beam relay to the low beam part of the headlamp assembly. The left and right-hand low beams are fused separately. The fuses are located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.
If the high beam/low beam switch is set to "high beam", then a voltage is supplied through the high beam relay to the high beam part of the headlamp assembly. The left and right-hand high beams are fused separately. The fuses are located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.

Headlight on 2003 Honda CR-V


From another forum I found the following:

"If you have an '02 CR-V and your low beams aren't working, pull the covers off of the steering column and check the headlamp switch connector and its wiring harness. The CR-V of that model year used the same headlamp switch as '01-02 Civics, which was recalled by Honda in the Civic models but not in CR-Vs. A problem with the switch causes the red/white wire and its terminal to overheat and burn or melt the harness connector and the socket/pins on the switch. This causes the low beams to stop working, while the high beams continue to function.

If you find that this is your problem, Honda's service bulletin (#04-015) advises to replace the headlamp switch and the connector and to splice a new terminal onto the red/white wire. They have a parts kit (part no. 35012-S5A-307) that includes the switch, connector, and wire. This kit is actually cheaper than buying the headlamp switch alone.

While the CR-V wasn't part of the recall, I've found the problem is exactly the same as with the Civic model and the parts kit works just the same. The only difference is that you have to pay for it, instead of having it repaired for free... "

I phoned our local dealership and the kit they keep in stock for $40. Not sure if it will fit the '03 or not, but going to give it a try.
