Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

1 Answer

Starting Issue On occasion, my 2000 3.5L Intrigue will not start. I can hear a "whirring" noise under the hood, the lights come on, all electrical systems seem okay, I just put in a new battery. Sometimes I'll disconnect and reconnect the battery and there will be a "click" sound. The car then starts. However, We just spent three hours one night, 70 miles from home, and nothing worked. Five hours later, it started right up. The Service Engine Light is now on, too! We also have occasional turn-signal problems and the lower blower settings don't work.

I am looking into buying a 2000 Olds Intrigue and the owner said that it sometimes died. He said that he had no problems with the car before and now it has a temper. He said that his wife got stranded in it and had to walk 4 miles with two little kids, and after that she told him that the car had to go. It also had the starting issue. Sometimes it would start and sometimes not and like the other description it would start once and not start 2 hours later. He said that sometimes it would start if the battery was jumped, and that's what he had to do when I went to test drive it. I really like everything else about the car but these forums are starting to scare me. I don't want to have a car that breaks all the time.

I too have a starting probel with the car. It usually starts fine, but at times I turn the key and "nothing". I usually get it going after putting it in neutral and pushing it, but it doesn't always work the first time.

same problem, I just leave my key turned on and waite till the security light stops flashing, then I turn the key back and then foward again and starts fine, sometimes can take up to 15 mins, not reliable if your going to work.

Check the condition of the negative battery cable and end. If you see corrosion, replace it.

Both fuel relay fuses making clicking noises under hood in 2001 dodge 2500 v8

the clicking noises you are hearing are the relays powering up, that is normal. with somebody in truck try starting itw ith somebody under truck at the gas tank, take a rubberm allet and bang on the tank in the center of it while cranking, if it starts you need a fuel pump. make sure you have gas in tank the sending unit on the fuel pumps go bad all the time.

Whirring or screeching sound front right front of engine when starting

Where is the stater on those cars, check it out and check all parts that move during the starting procedure like belts etc.If it goes away after starting,it might be in the starter or could be a dry fan belt making those squealing noise.
Hope this helps good luck.

I am hearing a noise, like a whirring sound that speeds up with the acceleration and makes no noise when in park. Does this sound like cv joint trouble?

a whirring sound can be a bearing on a component under the hood.(power steering pump, alternator, idler pulley bearing, etc),it can also be a serpentine belt from a worn belt or belt tensioner a cv joint won`t make a whirring sound(it will cause a clunking noise or a vibration).

Start up issue

the gears are not moving when the car is in park, therefore, no noise from the trans.. it is coming from somewhere else. quite possibly, it's the starter motor is continuing to spin. have someone listen under the hood while starting. if it is the starter, the noise will be more prominent when listening from under the hood. how long does the noise last?

Were i can find the fuel pump fuse because no juice on the pump or if any body knows the problems let me know thanks

There is no fuse for your fuel pump. There is the main relay, located under the dash, near the fuse box. It has to be checked electrically to verify that voltage is available to the pump.
Since you say that no juice is going to the pump, I assume that you have had someone listen back there (the pump is in your fuel tank) to see if they hear a whirring noise when you turn the key on without starting the car. If there is a whirring noise, then the pump is running. If there is no whirring noise, either the pump or the main relay is bad.
Hope this helps you a little.

How would you know if a start signal is reaching starter solenoid? new starter , battery is good some thing is killing volts before car starts

When your solenoid receives a voltage signal from the ignition you can hear a "click" when it engages. If your engine turns over like it wants to start or you hear a clicking or a buzzing under the hood your starter works. If you turn your lights on after starting and they work it's not electrical at all. If you try to start it and you hear a high pitch whining type of noise and then your battery dies, then the teeth on your flywheel are gone.  The starter will just spin there and it will drain your battery with a quickness.
