HOW DO I CHANGE THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS IN A 1993 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO?

no they are bad, unless its brakes
a real mech , checks both.
its one or the other, or worse. bad axle gear/bearings/

the fsm covers both. ever seen the real book? on this car.
the ZJ book is here and free

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service
posted like 100+ times, now......

keep in mind jeeps may have different axles.
2wd, 4wd, and locking axles (options)
models 30, 35 and 44 so the details vary that is why the book wins here. the real book wins.

diagnosis is an other matter, i have an electronic stethoscope
that allows me to drive and hear each bearing. cost me $35.

id inspect brakes first. after all they are in clear easy view.
make sure the brake parts are not seized. that includes
the Emg. brake parts !!!
does you car have ABS brakes?
some have drums others have rear disc brakes, the linked FSM
covers both.

for example disc calipers can fail in many ways
guides seized.
pistion seized
emg brake part stuck.
cracked rotors, or warped.

so that be first a real brake inspection on side that makes noise.

if the brakes are ok, then axle bearings are checked next
if you feel radial play they are BAD.
and more. ask.

1995 ford f150 both drums have small metal dust has play in rear end and sounds grinding on both sides wheel bearing or gear bearing what to do

It sounds like it could be in the rear diff not the bearings normally they make a roaring noise. Have you tried cleaning and adjusting the rear brakes. I would try that and see if it helps

97 Chevy S10 rear end squeek that goes away when brakes are applied

If you have rear disc brakes, one of the rotors could be warped and causing the pads to move in the caliper.
You should be able to remove one wheel at a time, lock down the rotor with the lug nuts, and put the trans in low gear or reverse to listen for the noise.

Want to interchange rear end on a 1997 5 speed isuzu rodeo. Can i use a rear end from a 1998 3.2 rear end

Hey there Alex,
I am going to say no...
I did check the interchange and Hollander Interchange says no.
Reason being , the carriers are different.
I am assuming you are working on a 2wd , or you would have mentioned the front axle assembly as well.

Here are the options for the '97 ;
96-97 only
disc brakes (6 cyl), (4.30 ratio, 43/10 teeth, S7C), 3 sensor ABS (sensor in pumpkin)
disc brakes (6 cyl), (4.30 ratio, 43/10 teeth, S7C), 4 sensor ABS (sensors in axle tubes)
drum brakes (4 cyl), (4.56 ratio, 41/9 teeth, HC6)

and here are the options for the '98;
1998 and 1999 only
4x2 (drum brakes), 3.73 ratio (41/11 teeth, 6NW)
4x2 (drum brakes), 4.56 ratio (41/9 teeth, HC6)
4x2 (drum brakes), 4.10 ratio (41/10 teeth, GT5)
4x2 (drum brakes), 4.30 ratio (43/10 teeth, S7C)
4x2 (drum brakes), 4.78 ratio (43/9 teeth, S2J)

I just took my parents T100, 1998 in for servicing. It had been sitting for about 2 years so we had them replace fluids and do a 90,000 mile check up. They charged us for 17 qts of NPN75W90 gear oil. ...

according to mitchell ( a known source for autmotive info)

the rear diff takes 3.1 qts
the front diff takes 2.0qts
the transmission takes 2.3 qts
the transfer case takes 1.2 qts
giving a total of 8.6 qts
however many times these numbers are not 100% and vehicles do take more
i would say the truck takes around 12 qts for all those services and if they did put all that fuid in there they may have done something wrong

Trying to find diagrams on different 7.5 10 hole differential for 93 gmc jimmy and why they are different

The baisc differences are ratio , locking or open carrier and drum or disc brake. There are two ratios that are common and that is 3:41 and 3:73 to one. 3:08 (smog/emissions) and 4:10(performance/off road) were rare. Most jimmys did not have a locking rear diff so i will not elaborate on this. The housing is the same for drum and disc brakes even though the hardware is different.

Front and back berring dissassembly of differential 2001 dodge 1500

For the rear diff., remove the driveshaft, brake drums, diff. cover, remove pinion flange nut, move diff carrier to access side gear retainer bolt and remove bolt, slide side gear pin out and push axles in to remove axle retainers and remove axels. Mark carrier bearing retainers, spin bearing retainers to loosen carrier for removal. Remove carrier, remove pinion out of diff case, then r&r bearings. Any shims should be replaced in their original location for depth and pinion to ring contact.
