No, it didn't smell burnt; but when I cleaned the pan there was a light colored gray sheen, perhaps metal deposits, but no actual shavings or pieces of metal. Also, this gray matter
did cover the magnet that is attached to pan. If this gray matter was collected and weigh, I'd
guess it ti be about a third of a gram.

2005 malibu ~ changed tranny fluid/filter now car won't move. what did I do wrong?

If the tranny was fine before then something went wrong. make sure theres enough fluid in it and that the correct amount was added, another thing is that the filter was installed correctly and is sucking up the fluid. good day.

Honda ACCORD 93, when the car starts to warm up it becomes harder to acelerate, rpm's high speed low. its almost like if a belt was to heat up and slip but still turn its gears

have you rtransmission fluid changed, and have them look for metal shavings in the tranny fluid. metal shavings or rey/silver fluid means the torque converter is going bad. it fould be a clogged tranny fluid filter, as well. the fluid change alone, might fix it, for the time being.

2002 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1ltr enging and a 4 speed automatic trans. The trans has a whinning sound when driving. It's not slipping and shifts correctly. It just has a whinning sound. What could the...

The most common whining noise from that tranny is the transmission pump. Sometimes they have a high pitch whine noise yet nothing wrong its normal. Sometimes its an indication of the pump being over-worked due to a dirty filter or fluid low. Turn engine on and check tranny fluid level. If low add to cold mark on dipstick, check for leaks under vehicle. If fluid appears very black or burnt smell, recommend flushing fluid and replacing filter (located inside tranny pan) yours will be a 4L60E type tranny.

Tranny problems will run for short time after startup then stop moving ,motor will still run but car wont move let it sit for some time and then it will move again

first of all, check condition of tranny fluid. if it is brown or smells burnt the clutch in tranny are slipping. if the fluid is ok and at normal on stick. then change the fluid and tranny filter. this may help. have a good one !! but if it still slips, tranny is in need of repair or replaced.

2002 ford escort zx2 tranny slipping from Andrew

Yes. Having owned a trans repair shop, I will tell you, never change fluid on a slipping trans or one that the fluid is very dark and stinks. Why? It will slip even more, to the point that you can't use it.

The Trans is burnt inside and has to be rebuilt or replaced with a remanufactured one. $1600.00 or more

I will be kind here, which is hard for me being a car guy.
Why did you buy a vehicle at an auction?

You buy cheap, you got nothing. I would expect those kind of problems, when deciding on a purchase such as you made and leave room in the puchase price to cover spending at least two weeks going thru the entire vehicle before putting it on the road.

When gasing the engine tranny slips

If you have a manual transmission it is time to replace your clutch. If you have an automatic transmission it is time for a transmission rebuilt. You can have your auto trans fluid and filter changed and this might help, but I doubt it. There is very little you can do for a slipping clutch in a manual tranny except replace the clutch. If you have a manual tranny with a clutch that is manual adjusted then the cluth may be out of adjustment, but I doubt you have a manually adjusted clutch it is more then likely hydralic.

2000 Neon (5-Speed) Transmission slips when accelerating

Your cheapest venue to take is to change the fluid and filter in the tranny. Look at the small magnet in the pan and see if there are large amounts of metal fillings(small amounts are normal) try it after reassembly. Good luck, Dana

Transmission slipping?

You should try to check the tranny fluid while the car is warm and running to see if it is low. This can cause slippage.

Have you had the fluid and filter changed if not you may want to get that done because a dirty filter can cause the transmission to slip as well. {Be cautious though because if the car has high mileage and the fluid has never been changed you may run into bigger problems. Check with your local mechanic before selecting this option.

Worn bands etc can cause slippage as well this would require repair.
