Question about 1999 Chrysler Concorde

I have a growling noise when I brake. Checked the brakes which are fine. The noise seems to be comming from where the CV joint is connected to the transmission.

More than likely a bad wheel bearing but it hard to tell without actually hearing
most repair shops will take a quick look at it free of charge

Noise in drive axle right side growling noise.


the CV joint is worn. Simplest way to fix is to get a complete axle with both joints and new boots.

Noise when turning left


well it could be the brake pads rattling when turning have the brakes checked. it could also be a bad cv joint gone bad causing the noise only on a turn. if its when turning left then the left cv joint has gone bad. replace the left half shaft. some people say a rattle noise when its a clicking noise.

I have a golf gti automatic. It makes a grinding when comming to stop and when frewheeling at low speed. i've checked brake pads and there fine


cv joint going bad, grease and boot may fix, probably caused by a cracked cv boot, and now the grease is gone, first thing to check is the boot on the cv joint (that's the shaft/joint that turns the wheels)attatches by a single nut in center of your front wheel (outer joint) if not the outer, then ck the inner (attatches to the transmission) (inner joint). most likely is the outer joint though

Is the noise a screeching high pitch or a growling low pitch?
It sounds to me that the CV joints might be bad and you need brakes.
high pitch would be the brake warning tabs
the low pitch would be the brake pads are gone and you are on the rotors gringing away metal

2000 Subaru Outback When turning at low speeds and accelerating at low speeds, I sometimes get a metallic grinding noise. I don't hear any noise at highway speeds. What is the problem?


Sounds like your CV half shaft is has gone bad. More than likely when you look behind your front wheels you will see a rip or hole in the CV boot. You will need to replace the CV joint to fix this. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!

How do i check if cv joints are worn i have a noise in the front end sounds like a rock in the tread but isnt


If the noise is there when making sharp turns check for torn boots on the cv joints,or evidence of grease around the boot. This will be the bad one. MOST COMMON on the explorer is the hub bearing assy.Where the joint goes into. They make a variety of noises from clicks to growling while driving . Fairly easy to change.

A humming or growling noise can sometimes be heard due to inadequate lubrication in either the inner or outer CV joint. Inspect the boot and see if it is cracked or split. This symptom is more often due to worn or damaged wheel bearings, a bad intermediate shaft bearing on equal length halfshaft transaxles, or due to worn shaft bearings within the transaxle.

yes my cv axles had to be replace cause of the same thing but when you replace one side you need to do the other side at the same time cause when 1 goes bad the other is not that far behind . i know from experience
