Question about 1998 Saturn SL

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Saturn SL2 with 156,7oo ish miles on it. The check engine light has come on but the car runs fine. This evening the low coolant light came on and it started to smoke a little. Is there a sensor in the coolant jug that lets you know when the anti-freeze is low? OR is it possible that the jug itself has a crack in it. Also was there ever any recall on anythig per-taining to the sensor or engine coolant system? Then I have the problem of a sensor in the transmission temp??? Is the possibly one in the same thing, or something totaly different? Please help if you can.... I really appreciate anything anyone can give me.... Wendy

My 2003 Saturn Ion has an issue where at low speeds, such as stopping at a red light or stop sign, it will shutter like its about to stall. Once I accelerate, it seems to be fine and drive properly u

The coolant light is a bad thing. You need to check the coolant to see if it is low. That would cause the light to come on. IF it is low you could over heat the engine and that would cause a major problem.

Filled Coolant reservior and radiator Drove trailblazer at highway speed no cooling problem. When slowed down in traffic temperature increased to about 220 and higher, could hear coolant bubbling in...

If there is bubbles occurring even inside the top part of the radiator (where you have the coolant put in), you may have a leak on your head gasket. You may be loosing coolant through the engine.

My 1998 Saturn SL2 is leaking coolant what is causing the problem? I have poured coolant into the compartment that the manual said to, this Saturn has 140,000 miles on it. The meter reads cool when I put...

it could be one of the hoses leaking. with your car running look under the front and see where it is coming from. The top/bottom hose coming off the radiator or MAYBE from the water pump

1998 Saturn SL2 smell of wax paperburning after relatively short drive. Oil light came on on last Thursday so stopped and had oil added. When I arrived home Thursday evening I noticed smell.

Sounds like you spilled a little oil on the engine when you added oil. Don't worry it will burn off by itself as long as you don't have an oil leak somwhere. If the smell doesn't go away after running the engine for 50 miles or so have a shop check the engine for oil leaks.

Service engine soon; code to engine running too lean...

Yes, it makes sence. I have a 1998 Saturn SL too, and I had to replace the fuel pressure regulater on it. I also had the light go on every once in a while. I asked a guy at saturn, and he said that there was a sencer on the engine that is goes bad after awile. The problem was that it was made of plastic and it would crack, but now they make them out of metal. I don't remember what the sencer is called, but ask a guy at the saturn parts window, and ask him if he knows what the secser is called, he should know.
