Question about 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Losing power I have a 2005 PT Cruiser and while I am driving it will start to stall and lose power but doesn't completely shut down. I have taken it in about five times now and it seem they can't find the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated

sounds like the problems we're having w/ our '05 pt base A/T. does not happen all the time (sputters, feels like it will stall), but it stalled on my wife while at a stop light. the engine started without any problems right after, but when i "checked" it a few hours later, it was sputtering again, but seemed normal otherwise. i doubt if it's the battery since everything was working well (lights, AC, wipers, radio, etc.). any ideas? i think most dealers are dubious and try to sell you parts & services you don't necessarily need. it seems like they don't know much about their cars and is always a "hit & miss" when you ask them to fix your car.

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser that also loses power. It happens intermittently. I have had my PT Crusier in service many times without any success.

At times the drop in speed is significant from 70 mph to 35 mph.

Car wants to die and sometimes does. Looses power and sputters.

Hey i know i how you guys feel i have the same problem. I get to a stop light and it stalls and sounds like it going to shut off. I push on the gas and it goes away. I have a warrenty but is $100 deductable and i have taken it many times to get fixed. Chrysler dealership always has a different answer. Like i got a tune-up at 30,000 miles, i got new brake lines and seals, i got a new pcp valve and a new Cool air intake system and nothing works

    HELP me

Is it because i am a woman who sounds crazy as i am telling them what my car is doing.

2005 AT PT CRUISER same problem started noticing it with air conditioner on. Now it does it without air being on. only at stop lights or going up in speed from 0 to 25. It is like a little sputter, that only lasts a second. Mechanic could not find problem either????

Our 2003 PT also stalls. It started slowly only stalling one or two times and slowly got worse to where is stalled at nearly every stop. It is a stick shift, so sometimes (if your good) you can roll your foot from the break to the gas and save it. Anyway, as the problem got worst, the oil light would come on too. Let me explain. When you press the clutch to down shift...Ding! Let the clutch back out, RPM's come back up and it stops. Then starts again, then stops...then stalls completely at the light.
Both answers above seem correct. I cleaned the throttle body myself and it (oil light/bell and the stalling problem) went away. Then about a week later it slowly started again. I cleaned it (throttle body) a second time...more thoroughly and it has been fine now for several hundred miles. The car has less than 90K, so we will visit the dealer to talk about the catalytic converter (had a clogged one on my 01 Camaro once). Thanks! TP

HEY EVERYONE.... SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN AND GOT THIS PROBLEM FIXED FOR FREE!!!!!!!! Now I have about 20 forums to go back to and save hundreds of PT Cruiser Owners the time money and aggrevation we have all experienced.
I have to give my friend John (now in my opinion the best auto mechanic in South Florida) the credit. Took him 10 minutes to give me the answer, took several Chrysler dealerships about 5 visits and weeks of diagnostics to finnaly agree with him!

The Solution: Replace the Catalytic Converter (FREE under 100,000 mile warranty - every car)!
Quote from dealer service receipt "check vehicle for stalling. found catalytic converter plugged up. Replaced catalytic converter."
part# 5085905AC CONVERTER-CATALYTIC
part# 4881012AB GASKET-EXHAUST MANIFOLD T

Please spread the word to all user groups - but give John credit! - Thanks, Rickster

What caused the gas pedal on my 2005 pt cruiser to go to the floor and accelerte on its own. i had to use brakes and turned the key off to stop the car to avoid an accident

Your problem will need to be diagnosed by Chrysler. Suggest that you contact your local dealer and Chrysler headquarters (1-800-992-1997) immediately to report this problem and seek assistance. Driving the vehicle before this problem is diagnosed and repaired may be extremely dangerous, but if you do experience the problem again, shift the transmission into NEUTRAL instead of cutting off the ignition. Shutting the vehicle off causes you to lose both power steering and power brakes, making the vehicle more difficult to control and stop.

2005 pt cruiser stopped running and either the engine or oil light came on, what could cause this?

On newer vehicles, if the engine loses oil pressure, it will shut off to prevent catastrophic damage caused by oil starvation. Check your oil level. If it's good, it could be your oil pump. Good luck.
