There is a pressure switch over on passenger side that will have to be jumpered in order to charge the system, it is a cut out switch that when it is low on freon the compressor does not engage.
Also put a can of lubricant back into the system before charging.

If you are doing this at home start the car turn on the ac and try it again if it still does not go your hose set up must have a frozen tip depress it see if freon comes out,if it does then back to the car did you replace the orifice filter it could be plugged up.it is located on the thinner line and near a conection look for a slight crimp near a connection that's where it will be found.

My ac compressor is grinding but for now will a smaller Serpentine belt work to bypass if until I I get a new one my car is a 2004 dodge grand caravan sxt 3.8 v6 allwheel drive

The short answer is no.
You need the compressor in place to make the belt run the water pump in the right direction.
You can get a used compressor that has a working clutch and not put freon in it if necessary.

Can the ac compressor clutch on a 2006 dodge stratus be replaced without replacing the entire ac compressor?

i dont know of any domestic cars that dont have rebuildable/replaceable clutches on the compressor. best way to find out is to call a parts store and see if you can get the part.

2005 dodge stratus took a recharge for the ac and worked for only a few days. Then tried to put some in with a dye and it didnt take any. Does this mean that it is full and the compressor went out? Or...

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE A GAUGE WHEN ADDING FREON.IF IT DIDN'T LEAK OUT YOU MAY HAVE A RESTRICTION WHICH IS NOT ALLOWING THE FREON TO FLOW.YOUR HOT SIDE N COLD SIDE ADAPTORS ARE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TOWARDS THE FRONT WALL.YOU MAY HAVE TO VAC. DOWN THE LINES AND CHANGE THE ORIFICE TUBES

2001 dodge stratus clutch wont turn on

i presume it was recharged by a certified hvac tech, then take it back that should still be under warranty, otherwise check your a/c relay hvac /fan fuse control circuit, with car engine turned off switch on ignition, but dont start, you should hear a click from the clutch magnet on the compressor, and if possible check for 12volts d.c. at clutch wires lack of voltage wont let comp operate, then it needs to be diagnosed from clutch back thru to fuse/relay panel

AC SOMETIMES COOLS

It is possible that the AC compressor clutch cycling is getting stuck in the off mode, this can be caused by a sticking expansion valve or a defective AC clutch control relay. One note u said u added more refrigerant to the system, if u over charged it you may cause damage to the compressor a $400 part and equal labor to replace, it might be a good idea to have the system charge checked by a shop that does AC work.
