I turn the headlights on and after a few minutes they are on 12 - 15 seconds then off 5 or six. I figure it is something thermal. When I reduce the current load by disconnecting one headlight, then the other is steady again.

Could be a multitude of problems. first off check all the connections going from the fuse panel threw the steering column up to the switch. especially if anything has been done under the dash. check the relays. sometimes you can find a matching relay on another component. switch the relay and see if your still having a headlight malfunction.

Headlight assembly

You have to remove or half remove the front bumper. After you do that the bolts retaining the headlight bucket should be exposed. The screws/bolts you come across will probably be: 5.5mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, and maybe some larger sizes, but it is all metric.

Alternator failed and blew the headlights 2 qty. dim, 1 qty. bright. Replaced the alternator and the headlights, but the dims don't stay on when the brights are engaged.

Normal operation of the headlight circuit is to just have one set of headlights on a time, bright or dim, but not both.
