2004 Pontiac Montana. The wipers start but then stop after moving just a little and then go back down. They do not come up all the way.

Hello Sebpgood.

O yes, the notorious GM van wiper problem.
The clutch mechanism on the wiper motors are difficult to say the least.
The spline on the shaft from the wiper motor may have slipped putting the wiper motor to wiper transmission out of synchronization.
These are tricky to get back in time.
Also there is a tab on the crank arm designed to catch the clutch that wears and/or bends down and will not allow proper operation.
Most of the time I replace the crank arm assembly as they are prone to wear.
Check all the parts on the wiper transmission for siezed pivots and bent arms.
I hope this helps you towards a repair.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Hallo! On my 2004 Pontiac Montana, left wiper is not going to the bottom and the right one is not going to it's far up-right position. Is it a problem with positioning the wiper-arms, or something else? ...

yes , positioning is off. lift both wipers off the windshield , turn wipers on and then off. Lower them onto the window and you will see which one has moved from it's proper position. Remove the out of position arm , or both if necesarry , and put them back on in the position where they should normally sit when shut off. My concern is that the posts they attach to may have the splines stripped off them , or the wiper arm itself might be stripped inside.

Where do you add brake fluid to a 2004 Pontiac Montana?

Dear Brake Fluid Craving........This is what you do....Run down to your local autoparts store...invest in a six dollar bottle of DOT 3 brake fluid...then walk back to your montana with fluid in hand. Open your hood......and stand there and look at your motor....while youre standing there in a stare down contest with your motor......look to your right and up towards your wiper blades a little bit. Your brake fluid master reservoir is goin to be right there on your firewall....right there at the top of the firewall just below the cowling for your wiper blades and such. It's gonna have a plastic cap on it.....normally bright in color. It will normally also say dot 3 on the cap also. Simply add a little fluid at a time from the new bottle of brake fluid until you can see the fluid level rise up in the reservoir till it's about half an inch from where the cap goes on...THERE!!! you're done!!! Easy huh? Now....after that's done I might suggest a brake check at any reputable auto shop...most give away free brake check.....low fluid normally simulates a bigger problem...low pad material...fluid for your time... I HOPE I HELPED!!!!

2000 Pontiac Montana with a wiper problem

Check the crank arm on the wiper motor. There is a bracket under the crank arm that has a small upward part on it that the bottom of the crank arm is supposed to stop on when its shut off.

Put the wiper in the pulse position and turn the key on. let the wipers sweep one time then turn off the key.

Look under the crank arm to see where it stopped. It should be no farther than 5 mm from the bracket stop. The stop is often times bent or worn out. You will need to replace the crank arm and the bracket in most cases.

Timing off on Pontiac Montana wipers

On top of the window motor there is a timing cam -- there is a little tab on the bottom that is most likely broken or bent. You need to replace the cam.

2001 Pontiac montanaThe front wipers park in the up position

This is a common problem with Chevy Venture, Olds Silhouette, and  Pontiac Montana. The mechanical wiper drive and parking cam assembly, if it's not broken, needs adjustment. The spring loaded stop arm should engage the vertical tab on the assembly mounting plate when the wiper motor reverses. See pic.  9a7b0af.jpg
I will upload the instructions to fix this problem, if there is interest.
