Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

Hi I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 motor in it. And Im having starting problems. In the mornings when the motors cold it starts just fine. Then when I drive it somewhere and park it then go to start it back up it cranks over 2 too 3 times before it starts and i have to give it a little gas sometimes. And if i only shut it off for about 2 mins or so it will start right up. And sometimes when it starts it starts at a really low idle then brings it self up to normal idle. It almost seems to me its loosing fuel pressure somewhere. I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump just recently and no luck. And I ran a bottle of Lucas Oil injector cleaner in a tank and half way threw that tank is when it started giving me problems I dont know if thats what caused the problem or if it was just a coincidence. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

It may have knocked some crud loose that could be blocking the line somewhat.
I would take the line loose in different sections and take some compressed air to the line and blow it out to make sure there is no junk in line.

After running my 2000 chevy silverado 4x4 if it sits for about 30 min it dose not want start with out giveing it gas

It might be your core pack. Try getting that checked at the auto store. Or it could be a gunked up fuel injector.

Motor knocks, sounds like lifter , at startup??

I bought a new silverado in 2001 and took it to 3 differnt chevy dealers for the same thing and got the same answer from all they claim its a cold start knock one said it had somthing to do with wrist pins they used and said it was normal and i told him that im not ASE certified but have built a few motors of my own and when it knocks that aint normal but he said it was nothing to worry about and so far mine has knocked since it was new with no problems yet.

1999 chevy silverado truck will start first thing in the morning, but then has problems starting the rest of the day. Sounds and smells flooded too. Starts best when its very cold outside.

In the morning if you turn the key w/o starting it and let it sit a while before starting, does it have trouble starting / smell flooded? If so, likely a bad / leaky injector.

Otherwise, I'd check the O2 sensor(s), likely have a bad one.

hope this helps.

I started my 1999 chevy silverado 5.3 liter this morning, 30 mins later i see a puddle underneath the truck and its running hot, its a steady drip. Also the heater has not been working right. Can anyone...

sounds like you have a coolant leak, if coolant is low it will cause both of your symtoms as to where it is coming from, there are many places but common ones are hoses/clamps, water pump or radiator.

1999 chevy silverado can't find the thermostat

Follow the UPPER Radiator Hose to the Motor. The Belt will Attach to a Bell Housing, Remove the Hose and Bell housing. The Thermostat is Underneath the Bell Housing. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

1999 chevy silverado 4.8 1500 will star but not idle

Could be as simple as your fuel filter...after the truck starts..can you keep it runing by gunning the motor?

If you can feather the accelerator to keep the motor runing, I'd start at the filter, and then check the fuel pump
