Try checking the battery cables. Make sure they are tight and not corroded. The alternator could be draining the battery as well. Furthermore, It could be anything electrical. Most likely, if the battery is charged, and the cables are tight, it could be the starter or the solenoid. Try tapping the solenoid with the car off, and try starting it. If after this, the car starts. then you need to check into replacing the solenoid, or the entire starter motor, if the solenoid is connected to the starter.

Usually caused by a battery that's a little low. recommend you try jumping it to a car that is running.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

My 2013 Kia Optima makes a clicking noise and won't start. Just had it at dealership two days ago.

1. Check that the wiring to the battery is tight on the battery terminals and the terminals are clean. Try and jump start the car from another vehicle. If it starts then your battery is bad and needs to be replaced. Also have the alternator checked to ensure it is producing the required electrical current to run the vehicle and keep the battery charged.

2. If it does not start with an attempted jump start off another car and your car is still under warranty get the car to the dealer and get them to check the " brake sensor". If the sensor is faulty your car will not start. However with this condition you would not usually hear any clicking either.

Battery keeps dying if not started daily. clicking noise in front passenger leg area up against the wall on the side in front of door. Will start fine after quick jump

most likely the vehicle has a parasitic drain, cause by that clicking noise. honestly, i'm not familiar with your vehicle, i suspect that the clicking noise is from a relay? going bad. pull that relay? (or something) that making noise & have it tested. ( look for the fuse feeding that relay? & remove temporarily to prevent drain & if it does not affect drivability of the vehicle without the fuse.)

Hi eyansdaddy,
Sounds like a bad connection on the battery , check the earth cable on the battery and the one that earths the engine to the bodywork (at the bottom of the engine) if there worn or frayed it can stop the engine from starting. all the best Scott

need to load test battery, this vehicle will not start or power up engine ECU if battery voltage is dropping to 10 volts or below while cranking. so if starter is clicking some times due to low voltage engine will not fire up(start) but cranks over seemingly fine. also when not starting does check engine light flash at all?
check all earths after checking battery with load tester if battery is ok then there was problems with immobiliser modules causing this fault and there is a revised module for this as well as checking wiring for key reader to immobiliser, also are there any aftermarket electronics fitted to vehicle? which could be causing problem due to location and wiring into vehicle.

Last few days car seemed hesitant to start and this morning wont turn at all it just gives a small clicking noise

Maybe the battery is going bad.

Or, connections are bad.

Or the alternator isn't charging the battery enough.

You have a solenoid on your starter. The solenoid is what you most likely hear clicking. The battery seems to be fine from your info. The starter can be repaired with a new solenoid. It really depends on who you go to and what the charge is to repair. The battery sends power to the solenoid, the solenoid kicks power to the starter to turn the starter for your engine to start. Good Luck

Lights come on but it won't start, just makes clicking noise

Either the battery is low (the lights will still come on) or the starter solenoid needs service. According to your description, the battery may be too weak to turn over the engine. Have the battery charged. If the battery is OK the solenoid should be checked. This can be done by your local parts store.
If the battery was low, you might want to invest in a battery trickle charger to recharge the battery in between the driving of the vehicle.
Hope this helps.

does the starter make a "clicking noise" when it wont turn over? check your battery cables at the battery and at the starter solenoid....if it not a connection , then it sounds like a bad starter relay/solenoid
