Question about Ford F-250

1 Answer

I am having problems getting fuel to my carberator on my 1985. F-250 4wd. (mfrd 11-84) 7.5 liter gas, dual tank. The engine will start for several seconds & then stall out as tho the fuel is cut off. Symptoms are the same no matter which tank is switched to so I am looking for componants common to each tank system that would cause the same fuel loss symptoms. I have replaced the hard to find fuel filter that is just in front of the carb. I can't find fuel pump wiring info, fuel pump spec info so as to determine if voltage is being lost to the pumps. or what solenoids, filters, valves or anything else that may be coomon to both tanks/fuel systems.

are you sure you have electric pumps? could it be that you have one mechanical pump? follow the line from the carb. does it go to the lower front of the engine?

There is a electronic switching device underneath on frame that switches from tank to tank check that to see if it is bad.
I have had them go bad in the past and had to temporarily hook up electric fuel pump to pump from 1 gas tank to get home.

6.2 liter mercruiser turns over but floods, getting to much fuel. And is fuel injected

Since these don't get run all the time and gas usually sets in them. You'll probably have to pull the injectors and have them cleaned. I would also drain the gas in the tank and start with fresh gas new fuel filter. It is always best to drain the tank and run the engine till it dies, if you know it is going to set for along time. Like winter time.

I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla what would make it sputter? It has the 1.6 liter..

A fuel pressure problem, possibly. Have the fuel pressure tested, and if low, could be a weak pump or a fuel filter starting to plug up.
Any number of other things it could be. Always check for trouble codes when a problem develops in the engine management.
Has it just started doing it? Have you put gas into it from a can or jug that may have had water in it? Does it do it all the time engine is running, or at certain speeds of the engine?
If fuel pressure is good, try some injector cleaner, in case some debris got picked up in the tank. Injectors seldom get clogged, I think cause they are always awash in new gas just delivered from the tank. The return line allows the gas to constantly circulate past the injectors.
Well, if it isn't gas, it's gotta be something else. I gotta go. Good night.

Is there a fuel pump cutoff switch on the 1989 ciera that can be reset or if the pump cannot be heard clicking in the tank is that the ?

fuel pump is in the tank & can be heard for 2 seconds when key is turned on. there is no
reset but by listening at gas cap you can hear if pump runs or not. spray carberator cleaner in
throtle body(carberator) to see if it helps with starting. there is a test port to check fuel pressure if you think its a fuel problem & carb cleaner helps it start

Where is the fuel pump at.1985 dodge ram 150 4x4

This truck is probably carberated, if I remember correctly the fuel pump is the drivers side of the engine. You can see it just forward of the carberator, it is secured to the cylinder head by two 12 mm bolts. It has one inlet hose and two that go to the carb...I hope this helps

1988 chevy celebrity No fuel to the carberator.

without starting the engine position the key to the on position.
you can hear the fuel pump operationing for 4 to 6 seconds upon having the key on.
if not heard running check the fuel pump fuse, the fuel pump relay, and the engines oil pressure switch.
they all work the pump you see
the engine oil pressure switch runs the pump untill the engine reaches normal pressure
once the pressure is reached to the normal range the computer shuts that circuit off and turns the fuel pump relay on

Car won't start after filling up the gas tank.

Just helped a friend fix this exact same issue on his 2004 hyundai santa fe. Replaced the purge control valve - a $39 part, even from the dealer. Had to get our hands dirty, but it took literally one single hour to replace the part. Filled it up immediately afterward and no more starting problems. Part is located directly behind the manifold - top, rear of the engine compartment - just between the engine
