Car won't start / volvo 240 dl fuel injection

The problem is we replaced the catalytic converter car ran bad for one day and the the following day the car will not start at all we checked spark to plugs /good......... checked fuel going to carbureter/good......tried starting car pulled plugs know i am getting fuel.....checked timing belt/all marks are right on......checked timing brought up #1 piston/matches #1 on the distributor .....shot starting fluid in car and that didn't work......checking oxygensensor form catalytic converter....there is no power going to the sensor with key on. all fuses are good but the dash board lights are not working bulbs are good

    My Bakkie started overheating. at garage the filled it to the top instesd of level mark. there is no water presence in the oil, but the car now uses excessive fuel and idles unevenly.

Your Car should have a self Diagnostic system under the hood, it is a small black box with a lead that plugs into one of six ports on the top of the box and there will be a red led light. You can look up the codes and how to retrieve them in a Chilton Manual or on line.

Check you O2 sensor on catalytic converter, if it is disconnected car will not start or run terrible. Any check engine light on?

Is the airfilter nice and clean? Vacuum hoses are in good shape?There is also two fuel pumps to check, one feederpump in the tank and a booster pump under the car, roughly under the driver seat. Both needs to work.

If you have spark to all plugs and fuel to the fuel rail, it is most likely your fuel pump relay. this also operates the fuel injectors.

What is the function of lambda sond? it's good or bad ?it's about what?


First used in February of 1977 on Volvo B21 four cylinder engines, the Lambda-Sond system was an emissions reduction system which used three key components working together:-


1) Lambda Sensor. An exhaust gas composition sensor to monitor chemical composition of engine exhaust gases; especially NOx (oxides of nitrogen) which feeds data to the engine control system. In simple terms it's an oxygen sensor positioned in the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter.


2) A feedback loop providing information to the engine control computer that enabled more precise control of the fuel injection system.


3) A catalytic converter.

This system greatly reduced exhaust emissions while allowing much better performance and fuel economy. It proved to be a key to restoring the performance lost by the addition of emission controls on vehicles. It was the forerunner to modern electronic engine management systems that eventually appeared as similar systems on all road-going vehicles.

So it's a very, very, good thing and like all similar systems requires periodic maintenance and repair, usually the parts which fail are the lambda sensor and/or the catalytic converter.

before you even think of replacing injectors use redexe/wynns or similar(1 x can to 1/2 tank high grade gas.)you might not need to...

DIESEL ENGINE FUEL INJECTORS WILL MAKE CLATTERING NOISES. AND A BAD FUEL INJECTION PUMP.VALVE LIFTERS MAKE NOISES.

I have a 1993 volvo 240 ran out of gas fuel pump and filter are less than 1 year old i put gas into it and it cranks and want to start but it doesn't. i put 6 gallons of gas any advice


It depends on how far you ran it out of fuel. If you ran it until it would not run any more and then tried to start it again several times; you may need to bleed and prime the fuel system to get it started. You start at the line coming from the tank and move toward the fuel injectors. You have to loosen a fitting and have someone pump fuel until the air bubbles stop and then tighten. A friend once worked for two hours to get his tractor started after his daughter ran it out of fuel. This is why they recommend that you do not run a fuel injected car out of fuel and if you do to turn it off as soon as it starts to miss badly.

I had more or less the same problem. It would only happen when the engine was cold. According to the mechanic, the fuel pump was going bad. After replacing it, I havent had it happen to me again, granted its only been a couple of days since I changed it.
