Sounds like your battery is getting weak. Take your truck to an automotive parts store and have them check the voltage. I know Advance Auto Parts and Autozone has them. They will check it for free. If your truck is a diesel like mine is and while it has two batteries; one could be going bad while the other has to work harder for the one that is going bad. If it is a bad battery, the one that is bad usually, over time, causes the other one to go out as well.

With that many miles, I would expect to find the injector as the issue. But it could also be a sticking valve. Or a valve that has problems opening as the oil gets hot. You may want to do a compression test hot and cold too.

1989 dodge ram pick up losing compression will start and idle fine but when in gear it has no power

You have an intake vacuum leak. The vacuum is sucking in water and causing the truck to run rough. It may get better when the truck is hot because this sometimes causes the plastic or gaskets to swell closing up the leak. To confirm ... when it's cold you can start the truck and spray some brake cleaner or quick start around the sides of the intake and you will see the engine will rev up a little.
Hope this helps.

At first the truck idles extremely rough when cold cranked. This went on for a couple of days, now the truck will not start at all. It hits every once in a while while repeated cranking on cold start. ...

Sometimes on cold days if the cranking amps on the battery are low, then it will be hard for the vehicle to start. Also, check the oil level. If the level is low it will create a hard start and rough idle for the vehicle.

2005 monte carlo seems to run rough / misfire when warm.

Remove your ignition module and take it to a parts house to be tested. This is common behavior for a failing module after it gets warm. Have them check it several times to insure it gets hot during testing.
