Thank you. However, both seem to be very tight. After having to have a new cat converter, replace a broken manifold, and the rear O-2 sensor this problem was discovered and the garage could not quickly locate the source. Thank for any other ideas. GMD

The battery cables appear tight. My garage could not readily locate a source for a "wiring harness leak" after having to have a new cat converter, new manifold, and replace the rear O-2 sensor. Thank you for any suggestions. GMD

What the garage is trying to simply say is there a break in one of the circuits wiring harness and they are not sure which one. A problem like this, if it indeed the issue, is one of the most difficult diagnostic procedures a Tech could have. It can eat up a lot of time, and most shops just do not want to be bothered.

Hi and welcome to fixya!

One good reason to have this issue is that when the positive battery connector is not tight fit. Please secure the battery connectors to avoid this kind of problem.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Oil leak from my SSangyong Rexton 2.7XDI continues to be a problem

drain /remove the oil until the correct level is obtained on the dip stick for starters . Next the "O" ring seal on the side of the box at the harness should be fitted with the use of a sealant ( locktite blue or red) in to a dry hole and allowed to skin . Incorrect fluid levels will cause the oil to aerate and flow out of any breather holes and will pressurize the transmission placing a strain on any seal .

Check your connections on your leak detection pump and vacuum hose to the engine. You will need a scanner to do a wiggle test on the wiring harness this is a common problem.

The code is telling you that you have a problem with the pump.

Head lamp harness

No - the worst electrical problem that the headlamp harness could cause is to short itself to ground somehow (bare wire, unplugged & turned on, etc), which would blow the headlight fuse.
However, dashboard problems can cause headlight problems, since the headlight switch is located in the dash.
The common point between the headlight problems, dashboard problems, and "electrical problems" would be the under-dash wiring and/or wiring harness from ECC (Engine Control Computer, aka "the car's computer) to the dashboard - check here first for grounding/shorting problems, or water leaking out of the in-dash vents onto a wiring harness.

92 dodge dakota 3.9 4x4 code 23,32 where is the ambiant air temp sensor for this truck located

This is a test of the sensor only. A complete test of the circuit requires the DRBII scan tool, or equivalent.
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the intake manifold temperature sensor.

  1. Using an input impedance volt-ohmmeter, measure across the terminals to test the resistance. The resistance should be less than 1340 ohms with the engine warm. Replace the sensor if not within specifications.
  2. Test the resistance of the wire harness. Do this between the engine controller wire harness connector terminal 21 and the connector terminal. Also check between terminal 4 to the sensor connector terminal. Repair the wire harness as necessary if the resistance is greater than 1 ohm.

code 32 is related to the EGR circuit. Remove the EGR valve from the intake and check for a clogged port(s). If ports are ok, replace the EGR. Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses and connections as well as the air intake tube. Sometimes the air intake tubes crack in between the ribs on on the ends where the clamps are, causing vacuum leaks.

2004 jeep grand cherokee 85,000 miles. code p303 (cylinder 3 misfire, right?) just had spark plugs replaced to try to solve problem - didn't work. check engine light blinking, car shudders, even worse...

Just had a very similar problem. The cause: wiring harness scrapes against the vibrating engine and wears the insulation off the wires causing shorts. In my case, this happened at the point where the wiring harness goes around the back side of the valve cover. There are some studs there that love to eat away at the wiring harness. This causes the computer to go spastic.

Sometimes when I put the turn signal on either left or right (doesn't matter) the car shuts off. Doesn't matter if I am driving down the road or sitting still. Just barely hitting the turn signal switch...

From what I've been told, the late 90s and up GM cars have the main steering column wiring harness bundled. It runs down the steering column, into the engine bay, and under the battery. Take a look at the area around the battery to see if it is leaking. If the battery is leaking, the fluid is both corrosive and conductive. If it leaks onto the harness, it may have eaten the wire jacketing on the harness wires. In that harness will be the wires for both your turn signals and your ignition switch. If they're shorted together, when you activate the turn signals, you may be killing the ignition.
