Why wont my 2001 windstar not turn over

Sounds like a bad starter or could be a bad solenoid. Also if the starter is ok check the cables from your battery and make sure they are clean and tight on both ends of the cables at the battery as well as starter.

The starter solenoid is under the engine of the van. If replacing it, you have to buy both parts-they are not sold separately.

On the front of the engine--you can see it from looking thru the lower grille.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5973094-starter_replace . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck, please get back to me.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE STARTEROFF OUR 2001 WINDSTAR WITH 3.8L V6

first find the starter on the vehicle usually they can be located from the bottom sometimes not. After you locate it make sure you disconect the battery ... very important. Usually a starter has 3-4 bolts that attach it to the frame or mounting bracket. Be careful when you remove the bolts and disconnect these things are usually heavier than they look ... and like always when working on a car you are not in the best position so don't let the size fool you they can drop on you and hurt alot... hope this helps ... and remember disconnect the battery before you start...
