You could try to pull off the bottom hose and run a hose through it till it runs clean then replace the hose fill the radiator half full start the car let it run for a min. or two then do it again untill all the gunk comes out then put antifreeze and half water

Go to auto parts store and get a flush kit,

cut and insert the "T" from the flush kit on the heater hose outlet or inlet.
make sure you are cutting into the heater hose coming out of the firewall heater area and not a large vacuum line.
if your not sure ask a mechanic.

connect the kits anti syphon to water hose and connect to the T you have installed ,
open the radiator , and flush very slow if engine is hot , or wait till engine is cool as a very cold flush can damage the engine.

How do I let the old anti freezer out of a 1995 Chevy Lumina?

Very simple locate the radiator on the car and at the bottom/underneath of the car there will be a drain plug either on the far left or far right of the car's radiator. Just unscrew it and catch the old antifreeze and dispose of it appropriately. Once drained, simply refill the radiator and let it burp a few times then put the cap back on and continue to fill the overflow reservoir to full cold level line. Then start the car and let it run for about 10-15mins continually watching/filling the reservoir until the car is warm and it doesn't seem to be removing any more antifreeze from the reservoir. FINALLY let the car cool completely about an hour or so. And check the coolant one last time, the overflow reservoir that is, make sure it is filled to the full cold level line. NOTE: BE SURE NOT TO OVERFILL OR IT MAY LEAK OUT WHILE CAR IS RUNNING. Hope this helps

1995 chevy lumina what turns a radiator fans on

All electric..thermostatic switches. When the coolant gets too hot a switch is tripped that fires up the fans. There is a mechanical valve too, it directs hot coolant away from engine.

1995 chevy lumina 3,1 overheats when it gets to 1/2 way on temp gauge

Possible that the radiator is dirty and needs to be flushed out and refilled with new anti rust/coolant. Also check for low level of water after a day and if so there is leak in the system which must be sealed.
Also the radiator cap could be damaged. finally make sure that the timing and tuning of the engine is in order.

How to flush the radiator(cooling system) on 1995 chevy lumina

Wait until motor is cool. remove rad cap and loosen rad drain pet **** under rad. If you can't loosen it or cant find it, remove lower rad hose. let all antifreeze drain. Close pet **** or replace rad hose. Fill with water and rad flush(you can get the flush from an auto supply store or wallmart). Run for the recommended time on rad flush bottle. Wait for motor to cool. Then drain out water. Refill with 50% prestone and distiled water.

I have a 1995 chevy lumina and need to know how to change the thermostat, can you help? What do I have too take off of the car to get to the water pump so that I can change out my thermostat?

You don't remove the water pump to change the thermostat, that's not where it is. It's at the engine end of the upper radiator hose that connects the radiator to the engine. How do you know that you need one? Are you overheating? In a car of that age you could easily have a plugged up radiator, you would want a reverse flush; watch the newspaper ads for a discounted price on that service. If the coolant is dirty, not bright green it will be deteriorated and will overheat. For extra they'll also change the hoses and thermostat. It can add up so shop it around.

You are going to have to look carefully at everything and find where antifreeze is coming from. Could be that something was left a bit loose or that flushing opened up a weak spot on the radiator. This being said, it also could be spillage from service that has not been blown off yet... Watch your coolant level and temp gauge, or better yet, bring it back to who did service and have them go over it for you...checking leaks is an important part of the is cleanup!

Your thermostat may have been installed upside down. Very common mistake. Was your vehicle running before the maintenance was done?
