Question about 1993 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

1993 mercury villager front left caliper will not release. Replaced caliper and brake line, there is no damage to the hard line. When you bleed the brakes the fluid has plenty of force and the caliper will close tight on the rotor but will not release. This was the problem I was having with the original caliper. Right front closes and releases just fine making me believe that the master cylinder is ok. Also blew out hard line and there is no blockage. What else could it be?????

if the car is stilling running hot check the antifreeze overflow bottle for a crack and to answer your question start the car and get it to normal temp while it is still running you open the overflow bottle fill it to the cold mark and keep adding coolant until all the bubbles are out of the system and put the cap back on right away

usually when this happens its caused by the caliber being push beyond its normale operating range or contaminated brake fluid. you should change the brake caliper and flush the brake lines with brake cleaner then bleed the system with new brake fluid

I have a 95 Villager with Anti Lock Brakes. I replaced the Pads, Calipers, Shoes and Front Brake lines. I bled the brakes according to the repair manual but, the brake light is on and the pedal still goes...

The brake bleed may not have been successful. Always bleed the right rear brake first then the left. Next the front right and then the left. If you are using someone to work the brake pedal make sure they hold it down until you have closed the bleed nipple. Make sure you use a little hose on the nipple and into a jar with fluid in it to watch for the bubbles to stop. Make sure the master cylinder always has enough fluid in it.
There is a brake bleeding kit that can be bought, this makes the job a lot easier.

Pistons in both front calipers stay out, both calipers replaced

You may have a leak in the booster or master cylinder. You can put a pressure tester on the system to test for leaks. It does sound like you have an air leak.
You can try to bleed the master cylinder, then slave cylinder, then brake lines.
