Question about 1996 Ford F250 Crew Cab

Have a 96 f250 deisel and the heater is aonl putting out warm air. Replaced the thermostat, both heater hoses are fairly hot. I think it may the the air mixture door. How do i check this.

Seems to be that your heater core has some restrictions in it. If your heater is not getting hot. You may need to replace the heater core. The mixture door can be checked by the sound it makes when you turn the controller from cold to hot . you will hear a clump sound.Good Luck!!!

could have air lock or heater core plugging up. heater cores should be back flushed.when car is hot touch one heater hose at a time both should be fairly hot if both hot then the problem is temp control.

96 Buick Park Avenue, heater wont blow hot air. How can I tell if it might be the thermostat or the heater core?


Start the car and let it warm up. After it is warmed up open the hood. Look for your top radiator hose, and see if you can squeeze the hose, if the hose is hard to squeeze, the thermastat is stuck shut. If your heater core was out, it would be leaking badly.

ONLY WARM AIR FROM HEATER, REPLACED THERMOSTAT, STILL ONLY WARM AIR. UPPER RADIATOR HOSE & HEATER CORE HOSES ARE HOT.


The next possibility, if you haven't already thiught of it, is as simple as making sure there is enough water/antifreeze solution in your radiator. If the level is too low, your hoses will get hot, but there will not be enought water to circulate into your heater core.

2001 F250 super duty 5.4 has very little heat. changed thermostat, checked blend door and other diverter doors. all are working. blew the dust from the heater core. still the air is luke warm. anyone have...


You should have a heater control valve in one of the heater hoses. Check that when you set the controls all the way up hot that the valve is opening the whole way to allow hot coolant to run thru the heater core. If the valve is working and allows flow, you may have to take it out to check it. Then the problem will be the heater core is most likely clogged and needs cleaned out or replaced.

i don't know realy if there is a fuse (though i doubt it) but issues with heatting may be this will help.

If the carpet under the heater core is damp, or if antifreeze vapor or steam is coming through the vents, the heater core is leaking.
Remove it and install a new unit (most radiator shops will not repair a leaking heater core.
If the air coming out of the heater vents isn't hot, the problem could stem from any of the following causes:
  • The thermostat is stuck open, previnting the engine coolant from warming enough to carry heat to the heater core. Replace the thermostat.
  • There is a blockage in the system, Preventing the flow of coolant through heater core. Feel both heater hoses the firewall. They should be hot.if one of them is cold, there is an obstruction in one of the hoses or in the heater core,or the heater control valve is shut. Detach the hoses and back flush the heater core with a water hose. If the heater core is clear but circulation is impeded, remove the two hoses and flush them out with a water hose.
  • If flushing fails to remove the blockage from the heater core, the coremust replaced.

2000 F250 super duty v10 engine. no heat. coolant changed. fuses, thermostat are ok. temp gauge operates normally. both heater core hoses are warm but still no heat in cab.


check the vaccum hoses on the passenger side under hood. I think that there are two hoses but it might be three. they get brittle and leak. but they move a little valve that you can move yourself just to see if heat works then. it is inline with the heater hoses I think. Bear with me though because it has been about 3-4 years ago when I figured this one out. it is definately a vaccum problem. there is also a set of vaccum hoses under passenger side of dash, several colors in it. might want to look there because sometimes kicked by peoples feet but money is on the ones inline with heater core. just move linkage and see if it gets hot air. Hope I helped and didnt confuse.

Heater doesn't get very hot only gets warm


I had the same problem with my 96. What I found was that someone had placed stop leak in the system, so I had to take a garden hose with a pressure tip on it, disconnect both upper and lower heater core hoses and flush the core several times with the hose, my heater now works great.

Heater only blows warm air.


The hoses from your heater core should be very hot to the touch. Check the hoses going to the core from the water pump. It should be very hot. The return hose should also be very hot. Now check the hoses going to the core. If they are not the same temp, then your heater control valve is not working correctly or the vacuum is not working. At any rate, locate the vacuum line going to the heater valve. Remove the silver bar on the valve from the plastic plunger arm. You will have heat all the time now if it was only a vacuum problem. You can fix it later when it's warmer out. BTW a 200* thermostat will make your heater even hotter.
