Hi there!

This sounds serious - and could be expencive, so get the rear brakes checked over as soon as you can.

I think it is related to the handbrake adjuster failing, or the cables siezing in the outers.
This can be verified upon inspection.

There are cases where very hot brakes, have cooled, leading to failure when cooling. This is a manufacturing/ design defect.

Don't take chances with brakes.

If this info proves useful, please spare a moment to rate as Fixya! Thanks.

Is there a way to adjust the parking parking brake in 1997 intrepid? If so where? I have 1997 intrepid with rear drum breaks brand new pads and the parking park won't grab enough to stop the car in motion,...

there is an adjustment screw on the bottom of the drum try tightening is little by little. you want it to grab when engaged. it is much harder to stop the car while moving than setting still.

2002 ford expedition stuck in park the gear shift would not come out of park

replace the neutral safety switch or also try rocking the vehicle forward and back and then trying the shifter again.if it is parked tight against a curb and had rolled forward just a little bit and came to rest with the vehicles weight against one tire this will cause a bind and won't let it out of park this is especially true of 4x4 vehicles as the mileages get hire I hope this helps and good luck

Ford 1997 Exediton got stuck in park 2 times, shaking shifter, it moved back into drive. How or what do i need to do

Possibly...shifters can feel like they are stuck in park when a vehicle is parked on a hill/slope and the parking brake was not applied. All the weight of the vehicle rests on the transmission, which makes it difficault to shift out of park.

Sometimes when I put the gear shift in park the vehicle will roll making a clicking noise, then i put it back in park and it holds o.k.???can you help me by identifying the problem???

The noise is the tooth engaging your parking dog in the trans. think of a big gear with square teeth and a plunger that fits into the valley of the gear. not always does the plunger hit the valley so when you roll a little it comes off the high point and settles where it belongs

Remote starter

Apparently the vehicle was in park enough to get the key out, but not enough to get it to turn to start or allow the remote starter to work. Once it had been jiggled around and put ALL the way into the PARK position, all works well again!

E break light is on and break locked up

try this. loosen the two brake lines at the master cylinder so some fluid can excape, if the brakes are now freed up you have a bad master cylinder. look for a swollen rubber seal on the master cyl.cap also. this indicates some wrong type of fluid has been added causing the problem. good luck.

2007 Expedition EL Limited, Parking Pawl not releasing consistant

I would check for brake lights when it happens, like have someone be looking. The parking pawl is in the tranny to keep vehicle from rolling. Sometimes the solenoid in the steering column gets weak or soda popped. If you remove the plastic there are four nuts 13mm and the prndl indicator 5.5mm remove this small plastic peice and small cable or it will break which tells what gear shifter is in on display to remove then you can set the steering wheel on the chair and examine the problem or disable because you WILL still need a key to take out of gear

Unsafe rolling with parking break engaged!

ford had a recall on the atoumatic transmission shift cabel retention.if the transmission shift cabel assembeled to the steering column bracket is not fully seated, the tranmission shift cabel may slip out of the bracket.should the shift cabel become detached, the driver may not be abel to shift transmission gears or correctly determine the transmission gear position using your gear selector indicator.this condition could lead to unintended vehicle movement in direction other than indicated on your gear selector indicator.in addition, this condition could prevent the vihicle from being restarted. samboiv
