This has only happened once but it seems serious. After the engine started the starter kept turning and did not stop for several minutes after the engine was turned off and the key removed from the ignition. Putting the transmission in reverse or drive did not stop it. It quit by itself.

It can be serious because it will ruin the teeth on the flywheel. The "bendix drive" in your starter is going bad. This is the part that engages and disengages the starter. While it is not overly expensive the starter has to come off and apart to fix it. Easier to change the whole starter. Hope this helps.

Subaru troubleshooting

Ignition switch is a good place to start, you may want to check the starter itself (PIA to pull and test because of its location), or you can always take it to autozone and have them run an electrical diagnostic (most of them do it for free and it takes 2 minutes), if that checks out, you can be assured it's either the ignition or wiring. Keep us up to date, and good luck.

Kia Sorento V-6 start-up difficulty

You probably should perform a fuel pressure test to see if the fuel pressure is bleeding off of the fuel rails when the engine is shut off. If it is, you could have a bad fuel pressure regulator or a bad check valve in the fuel pump module (which will require replacement of the module).

One way to test for this condition without any tools is like this:
cycle the key ON, wait about two seconds, then OFF, wait about 2 more seconds, and back ON again. Repeat his 3 or 4 times before turning the key to the CRANK position. If the engine starts immediately every time you do this, then the hard starting is definately caused by the fuel pressure bleeding off.

I have a BMW 130i 2007. After coming to a stop and switching off the engine, the car will not start again, and there is no engine turn over when the start button is pressed. It seems to be temperamental;...

If when you do try to start it and you can hear a click. It could be the starter going out. One way to check is when it happens hit the starter with something hard, several times, you will not hurt it. you might have to try it a couple of times. If it starts then the starter is bad. replace it.

I have a 1990 chevy s10 blazer. I am in the process of cleaning out the engine so i bought some degreaser. Sprayed the degreaser on the engine as told to by the directions and rinsed it all down with...

my uncle had an older chevy pickup once that had a simaller problem. with his it would start and drive fine but once it was warmed up and shut off it would not start again untill it cooled down again. his problem turned out to be a loose wire on the bottom of the block that coneccted to the starter i beleive so check that before buying a new starter because from the sound of it you may have the same issue caused by the degreaser

How do I change the starter on a 99 avalon

Could be your starter, sounds like your starter soloinoid(pulls starter gear into flywheel) might be defective. First it will not pull gear in, then if it sticks in your car could keep starting even if the key was turned off .
without looking at the car I could'nt say how hard it would be to change. It has been my observation that newer cars are much more difficult to change

1995 toyota 4 runner starting problem once in awhile

Is the starter turning over the engine when it wont start or is nothing happening at all?
I might have your solution if I have more details.
If the engine is turning over but not starting then switch on the ignition and push it to start. If it starts you probably need a new ignition switch.

Please get back to me .Thanks
