My Polo Playa 1.6 2002 was driving fine, just heard a loud bang (backfire) and car stalled . Will not start sounds like engine is not turning. What could be the issue?

check the timing belt has'nt snapped , do not try starting engine until you are sure the belt is in tact, if ok get the OBD codes read as will narrow down if a switch/sensor is at fault , if nothing shows check the cylinder compressions

1998 Mitsubishi Diamante stalled while driving

Check timing belt first. Some engines are interference types, such that when belt fails pistons may hit the valves causing major damage. Google search you engine # to see if your is or is not one of these. If non-interference type, you will just need to replace the belt, but most folks also replace the belt tensioner and perhaps water pump if it is also belt driven. You normally buy a kit of all these parts.

Engine stalls when alternator belt tightens or car

this could be a clutch problem, i encountered a similar situation not so long ago, skim over your clutch setup, if the clutch was slightly engaged even with the pedal pressed it would put enough strain on the engine forcing it to stall, alternativly it could be as simple as a disconnected vacuum or breather pipe from the inlet manifold

Car starts then stalls once the engine warms up.

You need new timing belt and gears. Buicks gears are made of plastic, and become a big glob. Nothing for the timing belt to grab onto.

Hi,this could be a bad timing belt , you can check it by removing the oil cap and have some one crancking the engine look inside,, if the valves does not move while the engine is turning you have a broken timing belt.......
