Question about Mitsubishi Montero

Open Question

I had my 2nd hand Pajero 4d56 turbo engine general overhauled a year ago. Replacements parts are Japan made and I am confident it was re-assembled well. Prior to overhauling, I had it run to 120 kilometers per hour, the engine just stopped, produces black smokes and stood in the middle of the road, with NO blinking alerts on the panel. When my mechanic had it checked, the cause is history of overheating from previous owner. Just last week, the same situation occured again, it stood me in the middle of the road, with NO panel alert, engine temperature normal.. My mechanic opened it last week, he told me it had overheated. I am confused since my radiator is doing well, no water vaporized. What may have caused this? Thank you.

SOURCE: 4d56 Pajero Turbo Diesel, blow's alot of smoke

If your car is fitted with Manifold Air Pressure sensor (MAP) check that is operating OK. Sometimes if this is as at fault it can send the wrong signal that the engine is running lean and the engine computer (ECU) in turn compensates by injecting extra fuel. The clouds of smoke are unburnt fuel so not only does it look bad but it is wasteful/costly. The fault on a MAP can evolve slowly and therefore evades the computer diagnostics check for some while before being picked up. Also on the list of things to look at are:- 1) the mass air sensor on the air filter ducting 2) the EGR exhaust gas recirculation valve (perhaps needs a thorough clean) 3) the differential pressure feedback exhaust (DFPE) sensor - lies upstream of the EGR but if faulty can combine to lead to errors in fuel injection quantities.

What do I need to do to remove the alternator from the motor bay of the 4D56 turbo diesel engine?

The right size sockets is about it. You will need to release the tension of the belt at the idler arm, disconnect your battery first, remove a couple of bolts and replace.

Pajero valve clearance 4d56 turbo and why engine oil pop out from dip stick while enging runing?

hi the clearance on these will be 0.25 hot ( just run ) and the reason why you have oil coming out from dip stick is either you have too much oil in and need to drain some, or somewhere on the vacuum system you might have a blockage which in turn is casing a pressure build up and is forcing the oil out...hope this helps
