Question about 1987 Dodge Raider

2 Answers

Engine "stumbles" I have a 1987 Dodge Raider. It hs a 2.6l 4 cyl. carbureted engine. While driving, the engine stumbles when I open up the second bbl. And it's worst in 5th gear, at all rpms. Not to mention I'm getting about 12 mpg. The previous owner had the carburetor replaced in 2005. But when I bought it, it didn't even run. I've been an automotive technician for over ten years and have seen my share of induction problems but this one has me lost. Some of the master technicians I work with tell me that the float is sticking and dumping too much fuel into the engine. It won't even run with the second bbl open with the stock air cleaner on. I can't seem to find any full manuals for this carburetor. Any ideas?

Check the AAP diagphram. When mine was leaking it stumbled. I replaced the diaphragm and it was so much smoother. You should have a vacuum line that runs from one of the thermo sensors (the one with only 2 plugs, near the temperature sensor). One of the lines goes directly from the thermo sensor into the AAP diaphragm housing (no other connections)

1987 dodge raider 4 cylinder love the car ... but ... when driving in cold weather, like near 0F, the car slows down, and dies then restarts after 30 minutes or so suggestions ?

So she does. If it carbureted then check the choke, it electric or heat operated from the exhaust.
What happen whent it get cold. There the thermoal spring in the choke cools down make the butterfly on the coke close. install new electric coke or a kit for the manifold head coke control.

My 1987 dodge raider is having problems starting. Sometimes it seems like the car does not have enough power from the battery. It has the 2.6 four cylinder and is also fitted with a carb. It has been...

Check your fuses. Make sure the battery is good and the battery terminals are clean and the wires have no tears. Make sure your engine is getting gas. Spray gas or engine starter in the carb. If it starts for a second, it is a fuel problem. Either fuel pump, fuel pump fuse or relay, or clogged fuel filter. If this all checks out, you need to start looking at spark plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor. Check your timing belt and make sure it is not broke. It could be a cam sensor or crank sensor as well.

Dodge ram50 1992 swap 2,4L to 2,6L

Greetings!

Yes, the engine mounts and bell housings are the same.
The swap should be straight forward, however be sure to swap all the vaccum controls and emission system from the 2.6L.

Have fun!
Cheers, Jay
